To stream a Telugu devotional playlist with FFmpeg, create or select a YouTube Live stream in YouTube Studio, copy that stream’s ingest URL and key, then point FFmpeg at the exact destination YouTube provides. Use RTMPS when your FFmpeg build supports it, check the incoming preview in Live Control Room, and only then make the event live.
Before you begin
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the prior 90 days. YouTube’s current general guidance sets the minimum age for live streaming at 16. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance.
- Install an FFmpeg build with the encoders and network protocols you intend to use. Available encoders and RTMPS support vary by build; FFmpeg documents its protocols at FFmpeg Protocols Documentation.
- Have a playlist file or a media file ready, and use recordings you own or have permission to stream. A devotional subject, traditional melody, or Telugu language does not by itself establish that a particular recording is cleared for rebroadcast.
- Make sure your upload connection and computer can sustain the selected video bitrate while encoding. If they cannot, choose a lower resolution or frame rate.
Create the YouTube stream and retrieve its key
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open the Stream tab. Create a stream or select the scheduled stream you want to use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in that stream’s settings. Prefer the RTMPS URL if your FFmpeg build supports it; do not substitute a guessed or generic ingest address. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes stream creation and the URL/key workflow.
Treat the key like a password: it identifies the encoder feed and lets YouTube accept it. Do not publish it in a public command, screenshot, repository, or shared shell history. If it may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room’s Stream tab and update FFmpeg to use the replacement. See YouTube’s stream-key security guidance.
Choose compatible video and audio settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS and supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, as well as AAC or MP3 audio. The encoder settings page recommends constant bitrate (CBR), supports up to 60 fps, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. For SDR, YouTube lists Rec. 709; it also specifies square pixels, progressive scan, stereo AAC audio at 128 Kbps, and 44.1 kHz stereo audio sampling. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate.
| H.264 target | YouTube minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee that your computer or connection can sustain them. The example below uses 4.5 Mbps for a 30-fps H.264 stream; that is below YouTube’s listed 5 Mbps minimum for H.264 1080p30, so use a lower-resolution target or select an appropriate bitrate from YouTube’s table rather than treating the example value as a universal 1080p setting.

Send a media file to YouTube with FFmpeg
FFmpeg’s documented file-to-RTMP pattern uses real-time input, FLV output, and a publishing destination. For YouTube, adapt that pattern to the exact URL and key format displayed in Live Control Room. This illustrative command assumes a 30-fps H.264/AAC SDR stream and an FFmpeg build with libx264 and RTMPS support; it is not a tested universal preset:
ffmpeg -re -i "input-file" -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast
-b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k -g 60
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -f flv "RTMPS_URL_WITH_STREAM_KEY"
Replace input-file with the path to your recording and replace the destination placeholder with the URL/key format YouTube currently shows for this stream. Do not publish a real key. At 30 fps, -g 60 sets a 60-frame GOP, equivalent to a two-second keyframe interval. If you change frame rate, adjust GOP length to keep the interval near two seconds and never above YouTube’s four-second maximum. Choose a bitrate suitable for the actual codec, resolution, and frame rate.

Loop one recording
For a single video that should repeat, add -stream_loop -1 before the input option:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "input-file" -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast
-b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k -g 60
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -f flv "RTMPS_URL_WITH_STREAM_KEY"
This loops one input, not a sequence of different songs. Confirm locally that the file decodes and that the start/end transition is acceptable before using it on a public event.

Play a Telugu devotional playlist
For a sequence of recordings, prepare an FFmpeg concat demuxer list such as playlist.txt with one file entry per line:
file 'song-01.mp4'
file 'song-02.mp4'
file 'song-03.mp4'
Then use the list as the input:
ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 0 -i "playlist.txt" -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast
-b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k -g 60
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -f flv "RTMPS_URL_WITH_STREAM_KEY"
The concat demuxer works best when the listed files have matching stream structure and compatible codecs, time bases, and parameters. If they differ, normalize or re-encode the source files to a consistent format before streaming; otherwise concatenation or playback may fail. The command above sends the list once. For a continuously repeating playlist, use a playlist workflow that reopens the list after it reaches the end, or use a cloud service designed to loop uploaded videos.

Preview, start, and end the live event
- Start FFmpeg and wait for YouTube to detect the incoming signal.
- In Live Control Room, inspect the preview for moving video, clean transitions, and audible, correctly balanced audio. Do not click Go live until the preview is right.
- For a scheduled event, click Go live in Live Control Room after the encoder signal is ready. Monitor stream health and audio/video throughout the broadcast.
- To finish, stop FFmpeg from sending content and use Live Control Room’s end-stream control where applicable. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
YouTube’s operational guidance recommends setting up an encoder stream at least two hours before the event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes ahead so you can verify the preview and monitor the stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

- FFmpeg cannot connect over RTMPS: Confirm that you copied the RTMPS URL from the current stream settings, that your build supports the required protocol, and that the destination includes the current key format. YouTube’s RTMPS troubleshooting guidance says the scheme and server should be
rtmps; for a particular SSL error it suggests specifying port 443. - YouTube receives no signal or reports an invalid key: Check for a truncated key, stray spaces, a mismatched stream URL, or a key that was reset after you copied it. Copy the active stream’s current URL and key again from Live Control Room. If the key was exposed, reset it and update the command.
- The preview stutters or stream health is poor: The upload link, encoding load, or selected bitrate may be too demanding. Test upload capacity and stream quality, then reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate until the feed is stable.
- There is no audio, or levels are wrong: Confirm the input actually contains an audio stream and that FFmpeg maps and encodes it as intended. Listen to the Live Control Room preview before making the event public.
- The playlist stops after one pass: The concat-list command sends its entries once. It does not automatically repeat. Use a playlist loop mechanism or a service that continuously loops uploaded videos.
- Later playlist files fail or show glitches: Different codecs, stream layouts, or parameters can make concatenation unreliable. Normalize the files to matching characteristics, test the full sequence locally, and check the YouTube preview again.
Or let it run in the cloud
