If OBS does not show a YouTube stream-key field, first check Settings > Stream. The field may be hidden because OBS is connected to YouTube through account authorization rather than a manual-key workflow. If you need to enter a key, switch to Use Stream Key if that option appears, then paste the current key from YouTube Studio. If the option is missing or the key is rejected, check the selected service and your channel’s livestream eligibility; these are separate issues.
Why the stream-key field may be missing
OBS changes the controls shown in Settings > Stream according to the selected service and connection mode. When OBS is authorized to use a YouTube account, the manual key field may be hidden because that workflow does not require you to enter a key yourself. OBS may offer a Use Stream Key control to switch to manual entry, but the label and availability can differ by OBS build and service selection. A hidden field does not, by itself, mean your YouTube channel is ineligible to livestream. Channel eligibility is a separate check: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours. Restore manual stream-key entry in OBS
- Open the stream settings. In OBS, go to Settings > Stream. Check the selected service. If you want to enter a key manually, choose YouTube or YouTube RTMPS where that option is available.
- Check the connection mode. If OBS shows that a YouTube account is connected and no key box appears, look for Use Stream Key or a similar manual-key option. Select it if available. If you prefer the account-connected workflow, you can keep it; a visible key field is not required for that method.
- Copy the current key from YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then choose Stream. Copy the stream key shown in the Live Control Room and paste it into OBS’s Stream Key field. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address,” so treat the value as a credential: Manage live stream settings.
- Confirm the intended channel and eligibility. Make sure the YouTube account authorized in OBS and the channel open in Studio are the ones you mean to use. Verify that the channel is verified and has no livestream restrictions from the previous 90 days. If livestreaming has never been enabled for that channel, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Replace a rejected or reset key. Copy the current key from Live Control Room and replace the one in OBS. If you believe the key has been exposed, a channel owner or manager can reset it in Live Control Room; paste the newly generated key into OBS afterward. Choose the workflow that fits

If the field is still unavailable
Recheck the selected service and whether OBS shows a connected account. The exact controls depend on the OBS build and selected service, and the current OBS source does not guarantee identical labels across older versions. If you need help for your installation, note the OBS version, operating system, selected service, and whether an account is shown as connected before consulting the current OBS support documentation or community. Reinstalling OBS or buying hardware is not an established fix for a missing key field.
