Yes—but only as a comparison. YouTube Recap is YouTube’s personalized, shareable year-in-review built from your viewing history. It is broader than Spotify Wrapped, which centers on music listening, and it is presented as an interactive story of cards rather than necessarily one downloadable video. For a music-only comparison, YouTube Music Recap is the closer match.
What YouTube Recap actually is
YouTube announced its first main-platform YouTube Recap on December 2, 2025. It uses an individual account’s YouTube watch history to assemble a personalized story about the interests, subjects, creators, music and viewing moments that shaped the applicable recap period. YouTube describes the experience as recap cards or a story, not as a conventional exported movie. See YouTube’s announcement and the YouTube Help requirements.
That makes “YouTube’s version of Spotify Wrapped” useful shorthand. “A video version of Spotify Wrapped” is less precise: the product summarizes activity on a video platform, but it does not necessarily turn everything you watched into one continuous compilation.
Three products that are easy to confuse
| Product | What it summarizes | Closest comparison |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Recap | General YouTube viewing, including interests, channels, creators, music and viewing moments | A broader, video-platform version of Wrapped |
| YouTube Music Recap | Music and podcast listening, with artists, songs, genres, albums and playlists | Spotify Wrapped |
| YouTube Rewind | A public, platform-produced year-in-review video about YouTube culture | Not a personal activity summary |
YouTube Music has offered personalized recaps separately, including statistics and animated cards for listening categories; examples are described in YouTube’s 2024 Music Recap announcement. Rewind, by contrast, asks what happened on YouTube generally, while Recap asks what an individual account did.

What can appear in YouTube Recap?
The 2025 announcement says the main recap can include:
- Subjects and interests explored during the year
- Recurring themes or deep dives
- Creators and channels
- Music activity, including top artists and songs for eligible listeners
- Genres and podcasts
- International music-listening patterns in the YouTube Music app
- A personalized interpretation of viewing habits
Secondary reporting described the 2025 edition as containing up to 12 personalized cards, including top channels, interests, changes in viewing habits and a viewing-based personality type. That lineup and card count belong to that edition and should not be treated as a permanent promise; see TechCrunch’s launch report.

YouTube Recap versus Spotify Wrapped
Both services turn recorded activity into a colorful, guided and shareable annual story. Spotify defines Wrapped as an annual personalized experience reflecting a listener’s music journey; its 2025 experience added further interactive features, as described by Spotify Support and the Spotify Newsroom.
| Dimension | YouTube Recap | Spotify Wrapped |
|---|---|---|
| Core activity | Watching videos across YouTube | Listening to audio on Spotify |
| Typical scope | Channels, creators, topics, videos, music and podcasts | Songs, artists, albums, genres and listening patterns |
| Best music comparison | YouTube Music Recap | Spotify Wrapped |
| Underlying data | Personal YouTube watch history | Spotify listening activity |
| Format | Personalized cards or a story inside YouTube | Interactive annual Wrapped experience |
| Main limitation | Mixed-purpose viewing can make results noisy | Primarily reflects listening behavior on Spotify |
If your YouTube history is full of tutorials, news, gaming, commentary, livestreams and accidental autoplay, a top channel may represent repeated or incidental viewing rather than a deliberate favorite. Someone who divides activity between several services or accounts will also receive separate, incomplete portraits.

Eligibility and cutoff periods
For the 2025 main YouTube Recap, YouTube’s help documentation required enough eligible watch history from January through late October 2025, a personal history attached to the account, and an updated supported app for mobile access. Paused history or automatic deletion can remove activity needed for eligibility. Exact app versions and activity windows are edition-specific; check the help page for the year you are trying to open.
YouTube Music listed separate thresholds: at least four hours of music listening per season, and at least 10 hours from January 1 through November 15 for the end-of-year recap. Paused history is excluded for the applicable period. These dates and thresholds should not be generalized to future editions.

Why Recap may be missing
- You are signed into a different Google or YouTube account.
- Your account has too little eligible activity.
- Watch history was paused, deleted or auto-deleted.
- Your activity is split between multiple accounts or mostly occurred while signed out.
- The YouTube or YouTube Music app is out of date.
- The feature has not reached your region or account yet.
- You are checking YouTube Music for the general YouTube Recap, or YouTube for the music-specific one.
- The seasonal recap window has ended.
Start by switching to the account with the relevant personal history, updating the app and checking both the YouTube homepage/You tab and the YouTube Music app. The official discovery and eligibility guidance is in YouTube’s instructions and YouTube Help.
Does it include music?
Yes. The general YouTube Recap can include music activity, top artists and songs when the account has enough qualifying listening. YouTube’s 2025 instructions said users with at least 10 hours of music listening on YouTube could receive a link to a deeper year-in-audio experience in YouTube Music. The detailed listening breakdown belongs in YouTube Music Recap, and watching a music video is not necessarily treated exactly like listening to that track through YouTube Music.
How representative is the result?
Recap reflects activity that YouTube recorded under its history and eligibility rules; it is not a controlled survey of your preferences. Shared accounts, autoplay, background playback, repeated short clips, deleted activity, paused history and multiple profiles can all change the result. A person who listens on Spotify or Apple Music will not see that activity in a YouTube-based recap.
Is YouTube Recap really a “video version” of Wrapped?
Only in the broad sense that it is a visual, shareable year-end summary built from activity on a video service. The more accurate description is a YouTube-platform version of Wrapped: broader than music, centered on viewing behavior, and delivered as an interactive story or cards. For the closest one-to-one music comparison, use YouTube Music Recap.
The Bottom Line
If Spotify Wrapped tells you how you listened, YouTube Recap tells you what you watched—and YouTube Music Recap tells you how you listened on Google’s music platform.
