Yes. Eligible YouTube Premium members can opt in to selected experimental features at youtube.com/new on a computer, or in the YouTube app through Profile picture → Settings → Try experimental features on Android, iPhone, and iPad. These are limited product tests—not a permanent catalog of benefits: availability can depend on account, country, age, device, operating system, app version, language, test capacity, and an experiment’s end date.
What YouTube Premium’s experimental program actually is
YouTube uses experiments to measure how people respond to a new or improved feature. A gradual rollout is different: a rollout expands an already approved change to more users, while an experiment may be changed, restricted, or abandoned. YouTube explains the distinction in its Help Center at its experiments and rollouts guide.
Premium membership does not unlock an unrestricted beta program. It can make an account eligible for particular tests that YouTube designates for Premium members. You may see no experiments at all, even with an active subscription, and another subscriber’s interface is not proof that the same test is available to you.
How to see what is available
| Where | Path | What the controls mean |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop browser | youtube.com/new | Try it out joins an available test; Turn off leaves one you enabled; Feedback opens the reporting control. |
| Android | YouTube app → Profile picture → Settings → Try experimental features | Available and enabled tests appear in the same area. |
| iPhone or iPad | YouTube app → Profile picture → Settings → Try experimental features | Labels can vary with the app version, language, and account. |
The official platform instructions are documented for Android and iPhone and iPad. On desktop, use the account that actually holds the Premium subscription.

| Experiment | Reported scope | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Ask YouTube | A conversational search experience intended to return structured answers and related videos. | TeamYouTube reported it on April 27, 2026, for participating Premium members aged 18 and older in the United States. Announcement. |
| Discover videos with Previews | Several short previews from recommended videos in the Android mobile app for a small percentage of users. | Reported by TeamYouTube in the same update; participation was limited. Announcement. |
| Your Custom Feed | A prompt-based way to influence Home recommendations. | Described by TeamYouTube as an experiment; eligibility and dates can change. Announcement. |
| Create Mode | A mobile area grouping creation tools, including experimental AI-generation capabilities. | This concerns creation features rather than a universal viewer benefit. Announcement. |
TeamYouTube’s descriptions do not turn these tests into launches. A test can end, change audience, or never become a standard YouTube feature.
How to leave an experiment
On desktop, return to youtube.com/new and select Turn off beside the enabled test. On mobile, open Profile picture → Settings → Try experimental features, choose the test, and tap Turn off.

YouTube says experiments normally disappear automatically on their scheduled end date, restoring the regular experience. A Premium-required experiment can be manually turned off only while the account remains a Premium member. The documentation does not promise an instant visual reset: an app restart, account refresh, or some waiting may be necessary. If the feature is also part of a broader rollout, turning off the Premium test may not remove every trace of it.
Who is eligible?
- Premium membership is required for experiments identified as Premium experiments.
- YouTube may restrict a test by country or territory, age, device, operating system, app version, language, account, or the size of its test group.
- Some tests have limited spots or a fixed participation window.
- Eligibility for one experiment says nothing about eligibility for another.
If you cancel Premium, YouTube confirms that you may lose the ability to manually turn off a Premium-required experiment. It does not promise that every test disappears immediately; removal may wait for an account-status update or the experiment’s scheduled end.

When nothing appears—or the feature misbehaves
“I pay for Premium but see no experiments.”
There may be no eligible test for your account, the test may be full or over, or your territory, age, language, device, or operating system may not match its criteria. You could also be signed into a different Google account, viewing a general rollout rather than a Premium experiment, or using an outdated app.
“The option is there, but the feature does not work.”
- Confirm that the correct Google account has Premium.
- Update YouTube, then close and reopen it.
- Check the experiment’s stated platform and device limits.
- If available, turn the test off and on again.
- Send feedback from the experiment page.
Do not assume reinstalling or clearing cache will restore eligibility; YouTube can exclude an account regardless of local troubleshooting.

“I turned it off, but I still see it.”
Restart the app and allow time for the account or interface to refresh. If the change is part of a wider rollout, the control for the Premium experiment cannot necessarily remove it.
Is YouTube Premium worth paying for just for experiments?
Usually not by itself. Experiments are an uncertain extra: the test you want may not be offered in your country or on your device, may have limited places, may end soon, or may never ship. Judge the subscription by the established Premium benefits you already value, then treat experiment access as a bonus.
Before subscribing, compare the official plan information at youtube.com/premium. YouTube pricing and plan availability vary by country, account, plan type, and billing channel, so an exact price should be checked at purchase time. Free YouTube remains available at youtube.com, but does not qualify an account for Premium-only experiments.
Bottom line
Premium members can try selected YouTube experiments, but only when their account qualifies. Use youtube.com/new or the app’s Try experimental features menu, read each test’s limits, and provide feedback through the same controls. Because YouTube changes the catalog and can end tests without adopting them, check the official page rather than subscribing for one promised feature.
