If Set as Premiere is missing, check the video’s format and resolution, the visibility and scheduling steps, your channel’s feature eligibility, and any policy notices. The 1,000-subscriber requirement you may have seen applies to adding a trailer to a Premiere page—not, according to the documented help guidance, to creating a basic Premiere.
First, check the upload and visibility settings
- Open the video in YouTube Studio. In the upload flow, go to the Visibility step. For a Premiere, the video must be public.
- Choose when it should publish. To release it later, choose Schedule and look for Set as Premiere. YouTube also documents setting an eligible public upload as an instant Premiere.
- Check that the option is for the video itself. The Premiere setting is separate from add-ons such as a trailer or custom countdown, which have their own conditions.
YouTube’s official “Premiere a new video” help page documents this setup flow and does not state that creators in India are generally barred from using it.
Check whether the video is supported
YouTube lists these as unsupported for Premieres:
- Shorts. YouTube’s help page says, “Shorts aren’t supported for Premieres.”
- 360 or VR180 video.
- Video with output above 1080p.
If your upload falls into one of those categories, try an eligible standard video at 1080p or below. A country-specific availability list for another YouTube feature does not establish a rule for Premieres.
Review feature eligibility and account notices
In YouTube Studio, open Settings > Channel > Feature eligibility. Review the status shown there and follow any verification or account prompts. YouTube notes that some features have separate requirements, so a status shown for one feature should not automatically be treated as the rule for every other feature.

Also check Studio and your account notifications for a Community Guidelines strike or another policy restriction. A strike may affect feature access and scheduled publishing. If a scheduled Premiere is caught by a publishing freeze, YouTube says it is set to private; after the freeze ends, you need to schedule it again.
Does your channel need 1,000 subscribers?
Not for the basic Premiere setting, based on the official help information described here. YouTube’s Premiere customization guidance gives a requirement of more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes for adding a trailer to the Premiere page. That is a trailer requirement, not an established universal threshold for creating a Premiere.

Custom countdowns and monetization options are also separate from the basic Premiere setting and can have their own eligibility conditions.
If Studio shows an advanced-feature error
Advanced-feature access has separate troubleshooting considerations. If Studio specifically reports an advanced-feature problem, check that you are signed into the right account and channel role. YouTube notes that advanced features may be unavailable to someone other than the primary owner, including in some Brand Account contexts, and that an incompatible browser can cause an error. These points concern advanced feature access; they do not by themselves prove why a basic Premiere control is missing.

Use this order to narrow down the cause
- Confirm the upload is public, or use Schedule and look for Set as Premiere for a future release.
- Rule out a Short, 360/VR180 video, or output above 1080p.
- Check Settings > Channel > Feature eligibility and act on any Studio prompts.
- Review account and Studio notices for a strike or policy restriction. If a scheduled Premiere was made private during a penalty freeze, reschedule it after the freeze ends.
- If Studio displays an advanced-feature error, verify the signed-in account and channel role, then try a current compatible browser.
If the option is still missing, contact YouTube Help or Creator Support where available. Include the channel, video format and resolution, the exact Studio screen where the control is missing, and any error text. The published help guidance does not identify an account-specific cause; diagnosing that requires the state of your channel in Studio.

India is listed among the supported creator locations for Super Chat and Super Stickers, subject to those features’ eligibility and video conditions. That establishes availability for those optional fan-funding features—not a country rule for Premiere creation. Those features may also be unavailable on private or unlisted videos, age-restricted videos, Made for Kids videos, or when live chat or comments are off.
