YouTube has two different Partner Program thresholds that creators often confuse. In eligible countries, a channel may qualify for earlier access to fan-funding and Shopping features at 500 subscribers, three valid public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. Sharing ad and YouTube Premium revenue requires the higher threshold: 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. Meeting either threshold does not guarantee acceptance; YouTube reviews the channel and its policy compliance.
Which YouTube monetization threshold applies to live streams?
The lower threshold is for earlier access to certain fan-funding and Shopping features in eligible locations. It is not the threshold for sharing revenue from ads and YouTube Premium. For those revenue sources, a channel needs to meet the higher threshold.

YouTube’s official guidance lists these thresholds but does not state publication dates for the pages reviewed. Check the Earn tab in YouTube Studio for current, account-specific progress and feature availability.
Do livestream watch hours count toward the 4,000 hours?
They can count when the stream is public and is converted to a public video-on-demand (VOD). A livestream that is unlisted, deleted, or not converted to a VOD does not count toward YPP watch-hour thresholds. The relevant figure is qualified public watch time; do not assume every hour a live broadcast is running will be credited.

If watch hours are your route, check the stream’s visibility and archive status after the broadcast. Shorts-view eligibility is a separate route with its own public-view threshold and time window.
What else does a channel need before applying?
Subscriber and watch-time or Shorts-view counts are only part of eligibility. YouTube also lists these channel and account requirements:
- Follow YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
- Live in a country or region where YPP is available.
- Have no active Community Guidelines strikes.
- Have 2-Step Verification enabled on the Google Account.
- Have access to YouTube advanced features.
- Have one active AdSense for YouTube account linked to the channel, or be ready to set one up through the application process.
YouTube assesses the channel as a whole. Reaching a displayed threshold is not approval, and a channel’s country, status, content, or account setup may affect what it can apply for.

How to apply in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Earn to check the eligibility status shown for your channel.
- When the relevant application option is available, accept the base YPP terms.
- Link an existing AdSense for YouTube account or set one up as prompted.
- Submit the channel for review. YouTube reviews the channel and its compliance with monetization policies; the threshold alone does not ensure acceptance.
- After acceptance, review the available monetization modules in Studio and accept the terms for each feature you want to use.

Which live-stream earning features are available?
YouTube lists advertising revenue, channel memberships, Shopping, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and YouTube Premium revenue among the ways eligible creators can earn from live content. These options do not all share one eligibility rule: each feature has different requirements and may depend on location, age, content eligibility, channel status, and acceptance of the relevant module.
Super Chat and Super Stickers
To use Super Chat or Super Stickers, creators must be at least 18, be in a supported location, and accept the Commerce Product Module or the applicable former addendum. Other channel or content limitations may apply. Check the feature’s status in Studio rather than assuming that YPP entry automatically enables it.

Modules and revenue shares
YouTube’s guidance states a 70% share of net revenue for memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks under the Commerce Product Module, and a 55% share of net revenue from ads on public Watch Page videos under the Watch Page Monetization Module. These are agreement terms, not an earnings estimate: actual revenue is not guaranteed, and creators should check the applicable terms in their own Studio account.
How to keep a livestream eligible for monetization
Keep qualifying archives public
If you are pursuing the watch-hour route, make sure qualifying livestreams remain public and are converted to public VODs. Unlisted, deleted, or unconverted streams are excluded from YPP watch-hour thresholds.
Follow monetization and live-content policies
YouTube’s monetization policies also apply to livestreams. Policy issues can limit earnings or suspend monetization, so review the applicable rules for the live content and any associated archive.

Stay active
YouTube may turn off monetization for channels that have not uploaded a video or posted to the Posts tab for six months or more. This is a possible action, not an automatic deadline that guarantees a channel will lose monetization exactly at six months.

A 24/7 broadcast does not bypass YPP thresholds, channel review, content policies, or the requirement that qualifying livestream watch time be preserved as a public VOD. Continuous streaming may create public watch time, but whether it helps a particular channel depends on eligible viewing, archive status, channel location, and the other requirements above.

Can I monetize a YouTube livestream with 500 subscribers?
In an eligible country, 500 subscribers may qualify a channel to apply for earlier YPP access if it also meets the upload and watch-hour or Shorts-view threshold. This is not the higher threshold for ad and YouTube Premium revenue sharing.
What do I need for Super Chat?
Super Chat requires age 18 or older, a supported location, acceptance of the Commerce Product Module or applicable former addendum, and satisfaction of any other channel or content limitations.
