YouTube Music’s April 2026 redesign lets listeners open the Up Next queue in the lower part of the Now Playing screen while keeping the artwork and playback controls visible. Lyrics moved into the action carousel, while Related is now reached from the song title. The change was reported as a server-side rollout on Android and iOS, so not every listener will necessarily see the same layout.
What changed in the Now Playing screen?
The redesigned player uses a dual-pane design: the album art and playback controls stay on screen while the Up Next queue appears below. This makes it possible to check what is coming next without leaving the player for a separate queue screen.

Swipe up to reveal the queue in its partial view. Swipe up again to return to the previous fullscreen player design. The Song/Video switcher now uses icons; the cover art is slightly larger, and the scrubber sits in a thicker container that becomes thicker still when tapped or scrubbed. These details were reported by 9to5Google on April 23, 2026.

Lyrics is no longer presented as one of the former lower tabs. Find it in the action carousel after the thumbs-up and thumbs-down controls.

Tap the song title, then its right-facing chevron, to open Related. It is no longer presented as the former lower tab.
Who has the redesign?
9to5Google reported on April 23, 2026 that a second availability wave was underway and that the redesign should be widely rolled out on Android and iOS. The report described the change as server-side, so installing or updating the app alone does not guarantee that a particular account will receive the new layout at the same time as others.

The article identified Android version 9.14 and iOS version 9.15 at the time. Those are dated version references, not statements of the current app versions. The report also observed that dismissing the queue or force-stopping the app could trigger the new look; neither action is a guaranteed fix.

YouTube Music’s Now Playing interface has varied over time. In September 2025, 9to5Google reported an earlier version of the dual-pane design, including Lyrics in the carousel and Related behind the song title. In December 2025, the publication said the design was still appearing inconsistently and was not yet widely rolled out. The September report described a partial queue showing around four tracks and said the view closed when users exited Now Playing; those are details of that earlier version, not guarantees about every current layout. In July 2026, 9to5Google reported a separate fullscreen-cover-art redesign was still being tested and was not yet widely rolled out. That report shows the interface continued to be experimented with, but does not establish whether the test remains active or has since become universal. Country-by-country availability and the completion of the April rollout for individual accounts have not been established in the cited reporting.
