Yes—some YouTube Music listeners reported that their 2022 Recap was missing, delayed, empty, or stuck on a “come back later” message. Google announced the Recap on November 29, 2022, but there was no single confirmed fix for every affected account. The first checks are to open it in the supported mobile apps, confirm the right Google account, and make sure YouTube watch history contains the listening activity Recap needed.
Try the two official ways to open the 2022 Recap
Google’s November 29, 2022 announcement described these mobile access routes:
- YouTube Music: Open the YouTube Music mobile app and look for the 2022 Recap page.
- YouTube: In the main YouTube app on iOS or Android, search for 2022 Recap. The results were supposed to include the Recap playlist and a stories banner.
The announcement emphasized the mobile apps for the full experience. A desktop website should not be assumed to offer an equivalent way to open the Recap stories.
Check that you are using the account with your listening history
Recap is tied to account history. Check the profile photo and email address in YouTube Music, then confirm the main YouTube app is signed into the same account. If you used more than one Google account in 2022, try the one you listened with. Also consider whether that activity was under a personal, Brand, or work or school account; the available guidance does not establish that every account type was automatically excluded.

Check YouTube watch history, not just search history
Google’s Recap guidance says paused watch-history periods are not included, and auto-delete can remove older activity needed to generate a Recap. Turning off auto-delete later does not necessarily bring back data already removed. Search history is not the setting to check.
Android
- Open YouTube Music and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Settings, then Privacy & data.
- Check whether Pause watch history is enabled.
- Open Manage watch history and look for recorded listening activity.
iPhone or iPad
- Open YouTube Music and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Settings, then Privacy.
- Check whether Pause watch history is enabled.
- Open Manage watch history and inspect the recorded activity.
Google lists these paths in its watch-history instructions. Labels can vary by app version, language, device, or account. Turning history back on helps record future activity; it does not guarantee that an old Recap will be regenerated.

Consider whether enough qualifying listening was recorded
Google’s current Recap help page documents an end-of-year threshold of at least 10 hours of music listening from January 1 through November 15, plus at least five songs with repeat listens. It also lists two hours of podcast listening during that period for end-of-year podcast Recap cards. These are the current documented criteria, not proof that every detail was unchanged in 2022.

A 2022 Google Help Community product-expert response also cited a 10-hour music-streaming requirement and suggested that downloads, uploads, or device files might not count as qualifying streams. Treat that as forum guidance, not a definitive technical rule for every account. Listening under another account, with history paused, or in a way that was not recorded can also explain why many hours of listening did not produce a Recap.

Match the symptom to the likely cause
The Recap is completely missing
Check the account and watch history first, then try both official mobile access routes. If the activity was recorded and the account seems eligible, a delayed rollout or account-side generation problem remains possible. Google’s launch announcement said the experience was starting on November 29, but user reports described accounts receiving it later or not at all; no public schedule for every account is established.
The page says “Nothing to hear here” or “come back later”
That message does not by itself prove you failed a listening threshold. Possible explanations include insufficient recorded activity, paused or deleted history, a different account, activity that may not have qualified, delayed generation, or an account-side error. In December 2022, users reported “come back later” and similar empty states in the YouTube Music Help Community; users also described gradual rollout and “nothing to preview” behavior in a Reddit discussion. Those reports show that people encountered the problem, not that one universal bug was confirmed.

The Recap playlist exists but is empty or incomplete
An empty playlist is not necessarily the same problem as a missing Recap story. Open the playlist in both YouTube Music and the main YouTube app, confirm the account, and check again later in case content has not synchronized. A Help Community user also reported a problem with an empty or unsavable Recap playlist; that is anecdotal evidence of the symptom, not a guaranteed diagnosis.

These steps can address a stuck or stale app view, but they are not confirmed fixes for missing 2022 data. Work through them in order:

- Update YouTube Music and the main YouTube app.
- Force-close both apps, reopen them, and confirm the account in each.
- Search 2022 Recap in the main YouTube mobile app.
- Review watch-history settings and recorded activity using the paths above.
- If you recently edited history, wait before checking again. A YouTube Music community manager said history edits could make a 2022 seasonal Recap unavailable for about 24 hours while it updated. That was guidance about a seasonal Recap, not a guarantee for the annual Recap.
- On Android, clearing YouTube Music’s app cache is a reasonable way to address a display problem. Menu names vary by device, so use the app settings provided by your phone.
- Reinstall only after checking the account and history. Reinstallation cannot recreate history that was deleted, auto-deleted, or never recorded.
When the missing Recap may not be recoverable
If watch history was paused during much of 2022, auto-deleted, manually deleted, or never recorded under the account you are checking, the underlying activity may no longer be available to generate the Recap. Changing settings or reinstalling now cannot restore data that is gone. If the history is present and you believe the account met the criteria, the available evidence does not identify a guaranteed user-side fix; the cause could have been delayed availability or an account-side generation problem. Because this is a historical feature, current app screens and current Recap criteria may not match the 2022 experience, and recovery today cannot be promised.
