If YouTube says “This phone number has been used too many times for verification,” the number has reached YouTube’s limit of two channel associations per year. YouTube’s stated remedy is to verify with a different phone number. The message does not, by itself, mean your channel is banned. If your problem is a missing verification code instead, follow the separate delivery steps below.
What the error means
Google Account Help gives the wording “This phone number has been used too many times for verification.” YouTube says a phone number can be associated with no more than two channels per year. If the number has reached that limit, use another number; Google says a family member’s or friend’s number may be used with their agreement. This is a phone-number reuse limit, not evidence by itself that your channel has been banned or has violated a YouTube policy. YouTube’s published help pages do not describe a way to reset the annual count or appeal a rejection of this kind. They also do not promise that deleting a number from an old account, buying a SIM, or waiting a set number of hours will clear the limit.
First, distinguish a number limit from a code-delivery problem

What to do when the number has reached the limit
- Confirm the exact error. If it says the number has been used too many times, treat it as the reuse limit. If the code is missing or sending fails, use the delivery troubleshooting steps above.
- Ask to use another person’s number. YouTube’s published remedy is another number; Google specifically says a family member’s or friend’s number may be used. Get the owner’s agreement and make sure they can receive the text or call.
- Check that you have authority to verify the channel. For a channel associated with a Brand Account, the person completing verification may need the appropriate channel-owner authority. - If the number appears to be rejected incorrectly, avoid assuming there is a reset route. The reviewed public YouTube and Google help pages do not explain how to clear the annual limit or provide a guaranteed appeal path for this error. Use a different number rather than relying on an undocumented cooldown or workaround.
After verification: check the requirements for your streaming method
Phone verification is one requirement for live streaming, but it is not the only one. YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming; the mobile subscriber threshold does not apply to every method. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
Streaming from a phone
YouTube’s mobile guidance lists a minimum of 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and activation that can take up to 24 hours for a first live stream. The same page lists Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+ as device requirements. Streaming by webcam or encoder
YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance also describes webcam and encoder methods. Do not apply the mobile-only minimum of 50 subscribers to these methods unless YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says it applies to your channel. Check the live-streaming requirements for the method you plan to use before troubleshooting equipment or software.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Waiting a fixed number of hours or days for the number limit to reset: YouTube’s published guidance does not promise a cooldown period.
- Removing the number from an older account: the reviewed help pages do not say this restores a verification attempt.
- Buying a SIM or using a virtual-number service as a workaround: neither is documented as a way to bypass the two-channel annual limit.
- Confusing mobile eligibility with all livestreaming: the 50-subscriber condition is listed for mobile streaming, not as a universal rule for every method.
- Treating first-stream activation time as a reset period: the up-to-24-hour notice concerns activation of a first mobile live stream, not clearing a phone-number reuse limit.
