No—advanced feature access is not required to start a live stream from a computer. YouTube lists computer live streaming as an intermediate feature, which becomes available after phone verification. Advanced access is relevant to a higher daily limit and to features such as embedding live streams. Mobile streaming has separate requirements, including at least 50 subscribers.
What YouTube requires to live stream
YouTube’s general prerequisites apply regardless of whether you stream from a computer or a mobile device: your channel must be verified, must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and you must be at least 16 years old. YouTube states these requirements in its Get started with live streaming guidance.
The feature tier depends on how you plan to stream. YouTube’s feature-access chart places computer live streaming among intermediate features. Phone verification grants intermediate access. Advanced access is associated with a higher daily limit for the feature, rather than being the initial gate for computer streaming.
Computer and mobile streaming have different eligibility rules
| Streaming method | Requirements beyond the general rules | What advanced access changes |
|---|---|---|
| Computer | Phone verification and intermediate feature access. | Advanced access is associated with a higher daily limit; it is not listed as a prerequisite for computer live streaming. |
| Mobile | At least 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days, and live streaming enabled. YouTube says the first mobile stream may take up to 24 hours to become available. | The 50-subscriber mobile threshold is separate from the computer feature tier. |
These distinctions come from YouTube’s feature-access chart and its method-specific guidance for creating a mobile live stream. Do not apply the mobile subscriber minimum to computer streaming.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the status of your own channel
- In YouTube Studio, go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Check whether intermediate features are enabled. For computer streaming, confirm phone verification and review any daily limit shown for your channel.
- If you plan to stream from mobile, confirm that your channel meets the 50-subscriber minimum and that live streaming is enabled. If this is your first mobile stream, allow for the activation period YouTube describes.
- Check that the channel has had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Feature verification does not override this separate requirement.
YouTube’s feature-access guidance identifies this Studio screen as the place to check channel-specific eligibility. Access can change, so another channel’s status or an old eligibility check is not a reliable substitute.
How to get advanced feature access
Advanced access requires phone verification first, followed by sufficient channel history or identity verification with a valid ID or video if YouTube offers those options for your account. ID and video verification are not available to everyone, and only the primary channel owner can complete identity verification for additional features.

- Complete phone verification if you have not already done so.
- In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and follow the advanced-access route displayed for your channel.
- If YouTube offers ID or video verification, complete the requested process. YouTube says those reviews usually take 24 hours; this is a usual timeframe, not a guaranteed deadline.
- If the available route depends on channel history, continue using the channel in line with YouTube’s policies and check Feature eligibility for updates.
YouTube describes channel history as including channel activity—such as uploads, live streams, and audience engagement—as well as personal data related to the Google Account, including account age and use patterns. Its guidance says most active channels already have sufficient history. See Get access to intermediate and advanced features for verification and history details.
If you still cannot start a stream
- You are streaming from a computer but lack advanced access: Check for phone verification and intermediate access. Advanced access is not the listed initial requirement for computer streaming; inspect the channel’s displayed daily limit.
- You are streaming from a phone with fewer than 50 subscribers: YouTube’s mobile eligibility rules require at least 50. That threshold does not apply to computer streaming.
- You meet the mobile subscriber threshold but the option is unavailable: Check that live streaming is enabled and allow up to 24 hours for a first mobile stream to become available.
- Your channel is verified but streaming is blocked: Check for live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Verification does not cancel a restriction.
- Advanced features are unavailable or were removed: Follow the route shown in Feature eligibility. YouTube says Community Guidelines noncompliance can delay eligibility or lead to loss of advanced access. It says active channels that consistently follow the guidelines can usually rebuild sufficient history within two months; that is a general expectation, not a guaranteed restoration date for an individual channel.
Or let it run in the cloud
Eligibility determines whether YouTube lets your channel go live; it does not require you to keep a computer running once your stream is set up. For a YouTube channel that needs uploaded videos to play continuously, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
