To let someone livestream on a YouTube channel linked to a Brand Account, the primary owner should move access management to YouTube Studio channel permissions, then invite that person as a Manager or Editor. Both roles can manage live streams. The channel must also be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; assigning a role does not satisfy those separate eligibility requirements.
Set up channel permissions for the Brand Account channel
YouTube directs Brand Account channels to use channel permissions to add or remove channel access. Delegates sign in with their own Google Accounts, so you do not need to share the primary owner’s password. The migration and invitations must be completed before a delegate can use the permissions.
- The Brand Account’s primary owner signs in to YouTube Studio on a computer and opens Settings > Permissions.
- Select Move permissions. YouTube gives this option to the Brand Account primary owner.
- For each person who needs access, choose a permission level and send an invitation. Existing Brand Account users are copied over, but the primary owner must set each person’s permission level manually.
- Ask each invitee to accept the invitation sent by email. Access is not ready until the invitation is accepted.
Channel permissions work through YouTube and YouTube Studio on computer and mobile. Invited users cannot manage the channel through YouTube APIs. Interface labels may change; check YouTube’s current channel permissions instructions if a setting is named differently.
Choose the least powerful role that fits the job
For someone who needs to start or manage streams, the practical choice is usually Editor if they should not administer access, or Manager if they also need to manage channel permissions. A role called “Manager” in the older Brand Account system is not automatically equivalent to a YouTube Studio channel-permissions Manager; complete the migration and assign the channel-permissions role explicitly.

Role names and features reflect YouTube’s channel-permissions guidance and may change. Review YouTube’s role descriptions and limitations before assigning access. Choose based on everything the delegate must do, not just the need to start a stream.
Check the channel’s live-stream eligibility separately
Even with the right role, a delegate cannot livestream unless the channel meets YouTube’s general live-streaming conditions: it must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. Check the channel’s status using YouTube’s live-streaming guidance. The role assignment itself does not clear a restriction or verify a channel.

Keep ownership and access secure
- Do not give a stream operator Owner access merely because they need to go live; an Editor can manage live streams without permission administration.
- Do not delete the Google account that is the Brand Account’s primary owner: YouTube warns that deleting it also deletes the channel. See YouTube’s Brand Account owner and manager guidance.
- Under legacy Brand Account roles, a Manager cannot invite other users, and a Communications Manager cannot take actions on YouTube. Use the Studio channel-permissions system rather than assuming a legacy role grants the current channel-permissions capabilities.
