First check whether the newly selected video is the playlist’s last item and whether it starts at all. A playlist that has finished normally is different from a live stream that fails during a transition. YouTube’s official guidance covers general playback and TV troubleshooting, but does not identify a confirmed cause or guaranteed fix for this exact symptom.
Start by identifying when playback stops
Note what happens immediately after you change videos. The timing helps distinguish a normal playlist ending from a failure to load or continue playback.
- The playlist reached its final item: If that video finishes and playback ends, this may be normal. The YouTube IFrame Player API says playlists do not loop by default and playback ends at the last item unless looping is enabled. This documents embedded-player behavior; it does not establish how every YouTube app handles playlists. YouTube IFrame Player API reference.
- The selected video never starts: Treat this first as a playback or loading problem, not proof that the stream itself has crashed.
- It buffers, pauses, or stops after starting: Record what the player shows and whether the failure happens on every transition or only with one video.
- It happens only after you manually select a different item: Note which item you selected and whether moving to another item produces the same result.
These distinctions matter because the available official guidance does not establish whether “changing video” means choosing an item manually, advancing to the next item, or leaving the live stream.
Try the general playback fixes
Work through these checks in order. They are YouTube’s general troubleshooting steps, not confirmed fixes for this particular playlist symptom. YouTube video playback troubleshooting.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Reopen YouTube. Close and reopen the app or reload the page, then retry the same transition.
- Update the app or browser. Install an available YouTube app update, or update and restart your browser. On a computer, close unnecessary tabs and restart the device if the problem continues.
- Try a different internet connection. For example, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data if available, then repeat the same playback steps. YouTube notes that congestion and other factors can affect live programming even when a network seems good; that is a general caveat, not a confirmed explanation for playlist switching.
- If you are on mobile, clear the YouTube app cache. Use your device’s app settings; the exact menu labels vary by device and operating system.
- Test another supported device or playback route. If the same playlist and transition work elsewhere, that is useful evidence that the original device, app, browser, or connection may be involved—but it does not by itself identify the cause.
If you are watching on a TV
YouTube’s TV guidance recommends checking the connection and playback quality, reopening or restarting the app or device, checking for system updates, and trying another way to play the video or another device. YouTube video playback troubleshooting · YouTube TV troubleshooting.
- Check that the TV is connected to the internet. If playback quality can be adjusted, try a lower quality and repeat the transition.
- Close and reopen the YouTube app. If needed, sign out and back in, then test again.
- Restart the TV or streaming device and check for a system update.
- Try playing the stream another way or on another device. YouTube mentions casting with Chromecast or using HDMI as alternative TV playback methods; neither is established as a specific fix for playlist transitions.
