If your YouTube stream started disconnecting after you changed the RTMP server, first compare the encoder’s server URL and protocol with the current Stream URL in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Then verify the stream key. These are separate settings: the URL is the destination, while the key is the credential YouTube uses to accept the feed. If both are correct, check RTMPS compatibility, encoder health and outbound upload connectivity—in that order. The timing is a useful clue, but it does not prove the server setting is the only cause.
1. Compare the encoder’s server URL with YouTube’s current Stream URL
Open the stream’s Live Control Room in YouTube Studio and copy the Stream URL shown there into the encoder’s server or destination field. YouTube’s URL tells the encoder where to send the feed. Don’t assume a previously saved destination is still current, and don’t substitute a different ingest URL.
Check the entire value, including its protocol prefix. A mismatch such as entering an RTMP address where the encoder is configured for RTMPS can prevent connection. If you changed the destination recently, this is the first setting to re-copy and verify.
2. Check whether the encoder is set to RTMP or RTMPS
YouTube may show the ordinary RTMP URL by default. To use RTMPS, select the lock control in Live Control Room to reveal and copy YouTube’s RTMPS URL. RTMPS is RTMP over a TLS/SSL connection, so the encoder must support it and must be given the matching RTMPS destination.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- SSL or certificate error: Confirm that both the selected protocol and server URL are RTMPS. If the error persists, YouTube advises trying port 443.
- Connection timeout: Re-check the exact URL and confirm that your encoder supports RTMPS.
Don’t change protocols and ports at random: match the encoder settings to the URL YouTube displays, and use port 443 as a targeted check for a persistent RTMPS SSL error.
3. Verify the stream key separately
The server URL is the destination; the stream key is the separate credential associated with the stream. In Live Control Room, copy the current key into the encoder’s stream-key field if you reset the key, see an authentication or start error, or suspect the encoder has an old value. A reset key must also be updated in the encoder. Treat the key like a password and don’t share it publicly.

4. Check the encoder before blaming the connection
Look at the encoder’s own preview and status, as well as YouTube’s live dashboard. Check for encoder errors, source-routing problems and unusually high CPU load. Update the encoder software; YouTube recommends keeping it current and contacting the software team about software integration problems.
If the source or encoder remains suspect, a different encoder can be a diagnostic comparison. It is not proof by itself that the original encoder caused the disconnect: compare the same source and current YouTube destination and key, and note whether the error changes.

5. Test outbound upload capacity and stability
A healthy-looking encoder preview does not rule out a connection problem. Test the internet connection’s upload capacity and stability—the stream is being sent out, so download speed alone is not the relevant measure. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the total streaming bitrate. A disruption in connectivity can break a stream; if tests indicate an ISP connection problem, YouTube advises contacting the ISP.
If several feeds or other uploads share the connection, include their concurrent outbound traffic when judging whether there is enough capacity. A wired connection can be a useful test if the connection appears unreliable, but it will not correct an incorrect server URL, protocol or key.

6. Use the symptom to choose the next check
| What you see | Check next |
|---|---|
| The problem began immediately after changing the destination | Re-copy YouTube’s current Stream URL and verify the encoder’s server field and protocol. |
| RTMPS SSL or certificate error | Confirm the RTMPS URL and protocol; if the error persists, try port 443. |
| RTMPS connection timeout | Verify the exact URL and the encoder’s RTMPS support. |
| Encoder start or authentication error | Copy the current stream key from Live Control Room and check the encoder software. |
| Encoder preview or YouTube dashboard shows problems | Check source routing, encoder errors and CPU load; validate that local archive files are being written correctly. |
| Encoder output looks healthy but YouTube still disconnects | Test outbound internet stability and available upload bandwidth. |
7. Preflight before the next broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, open the stream’s Live Control Room and confirm the current Stream URL, protocol and stream key.
- Paste the URL and key into their respective encoder fields; confirm that the encoder supports the protocol you selected.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before going live and resolve any visible errors.
- Test the full setup ahead of an important event, rather than making the first test during the broadcast.
- Monitor stream quality during the event, and confirm that local archive files are being written correctly.
- If using backup-encoder failover, test the backup path before the event.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube channel built from uploaded documentary videos, rather than a live camera or a repair to this encoder connection, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
