For a 720p, 30 fps YouTube Live stream, set the encoder to 1280×720 progressive, use H.264 at 8 Mbps (YouTube’s recommendation) or AV1/H.265 at 6 Mbps, choose constant bitrate (CBR), and set a two-second keyframe interval. Use RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS. For a Punjabi music channel, confirm that every recording is cleared for live streaming in the territories where viewers may watch, and arrange Content ID allowlisting when required. A single stream running longer than 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube.
Recommended encoder settings for 720p at 30 fps
YouTube’s current live encoder guidance gives the following video bitrate targets for 720p30. These are platform recommendations, not test results for a particular encoder, computer, or internet connection.

For SDR, YouTube’s advanced guidance specifies Rec. 709 color and 8-bit depth. It also lists square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, and CABAC. These additional encoder controls may appear under advanced video settings and may not be exposed by every encoder.
YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default. If you need to set these manually, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings. Follow the encoder workflow in YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder, then use the current values in its live encoder settings table.

How much upload bandwidth to reserve
Measure sustained outbound upload speed, not just download speed. YouTube says the total streaming bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% room; shared networks can reduce the capacity available to the encoder. Include audio bitrate and any backup stream in the total.
With H.264 at the recommended 8 Mbps video bitrate, adding 20% to the stream bitrate gives 9.6 Mbps before audio or backup traffic. A stricter interpretation—keeping 20% of measured capacity unused—requires at least 10 Mbps of measured upload just for an 8 Mbps video stream, again before audio or backup traffic. In practice, choose capacity so video, audio, and any backup feed fit while leaving the reserve unused.

A wired connection and monitoring can help with operations, but YouTube’s general settings guidance does not prescribe a particular router, ISP, cable, or failover product. Preflight with audio and picture movement similar to the real broadcast, then monitor stream health and YouTube’s messages while live. YouTube’s streaming tips cover checking the connection and stream health.
Connect an encoder and start the stream
- Prepare the channel for live streaming. In YouTube Studio, use the live control room to create or schedule a stream. If this is the channel’s first live broadcast, confirm that live streaming is enabled and available before the planned start.
- Choose the stream settings. Use automatic resolution detection unless you need manual control. For manual 720p30, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings as directed in YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Copy the stream key into the encoder. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or include it in a screen recording. Select RTMPS if the encoder offers it.
- Enter the video and audio values. Set 1280Ă—720 progressive at 30 fps, choose a supported codec and its recommended bitrate, enable CBR, set a two-second keyframe interval, and configure the audio output.
- Run a preflight test. Confirm the encoder connects, the preview has picture and sound, and the stream health indicator is acceptable before making the broadcast public. YouTube specifically recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual stream.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Check stream health and messages in the live control room, and have a plan for recovering the encoder or feed if it stops.
Plan archives for a channel that runs all day
YouTube says a stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. For a continuous 24/7 channel, do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive as the only recording: YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as backup. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

If you need YouTube archives, consider broadcasts shorter than 12 hours and/or a separate local recording. Confirm the channel’s actual workflow before relying on archived playback. Splitting a broadcast may affect continuity for viewers; YouTube’s guidance does not promise uninterrupted playback across segments.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can result in a placeholder replacing the broadcast and a warning; continued use of third-party content can interrupt or terminate the stream. A license does not automatically guarantee uninterrupted live playback. YouTube says that if you have licensed third-party music, you should ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. The required rights depend on the specific recordings, territories, uses, and license terms; a song being available to play does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it.
YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions state that the provider must have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses), and other royalty participants. Check that your permissions cover live streaming and, if you plan to retain or publish an archive, the relevant recording and on-demand uses too.
