To run a nature-video playlist continuously on YouTube, use an encoder that loops your footage and sends it as a live feed. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create the stream, then copy its server URL and stream key into the encoder. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; choose resolution and bitrate your encoder and upload connection can sustain.
What you need before you start
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, as required by YouTube’s live streaming eligibility guidance.
- Nature footage and audio you have the rights to use.
- An encoder or streaming software that can loop the videos in sequence and continuously send the resulting feed.
- A stable upload connection and enough computer capacity to encode continuously, unless you use a cloud service.
YouTube accepts encoder, mobile, webcam, and other live-streaming methods. A fixed prerecorded playlist needs an encoder or software that can feed the intended sequence; the Live Control Room itself does not turn a user-facing video playlist into a live broadcast.
Create the stream in YouTube Live Control Room
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule the stream. Set its title, description, audience designation, privacy (public, private, or unlisted), and an appropriate category. Scheduling can help viewers find an upcoming broadcast.
- Choose the encoder streaming option and locate the stream URL and stream key.
- Copy both values into the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Keep the key private: YouTube describes it as the stream’s “password and address.” If it is exposed, reset it in the stream settings before broadcasting again.
Labels and placement can change as YouTube updates Studio. Consult YouTube’s stream settings instructions if your interface differs.
Configure the encoder for a stable feed
Protocol, video, and audio
- Ingest: Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it; YouTube recommends it in its encoder setup guidance.
- Rate control: Set CBR (constant bitrate), which YouTube recommends for live encoding.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval and do not exceed four seconds.
- Video codec: Use a codec supported by the selected stream mode, such as H.264, H.265, or AV1 where available.
- Audio codec: Use AAC or MP3 as supported by the encoder and stream mode.
- Resolution and bitrate: Select values the encoder supports and your sustained upload capacity can handle. There is no single best setting for every connection or encoder. Avoid choosing a high resolution merely because the footage is available in it if the upload cannot sustain the feed.
YouTube detects incoming encoder settings and transcodes the stream into formats for viewers on different devices and networks. Its current resolution and bitrate table should guide the exact bitrate for your chosen resolution and frame rate; check it rather than relying on a preset copied from another encoder.

Looping and unattended operation
In the encoder, add the nature videos in the intended order and enable repeat or loop for the playlist. Confirm that the software transitions cleanly between clips, handles different source formats, and continues sending audio and video at the end of each file. Exact controls vary by encoder, and YouTube does not certify a particular third-party looping application.
Test with footage and audio similar to the planned broadcast. Watch Live Control Room’s stream-health messages and confirm that the output remains stable through several clip transitions before leaving it unattended. For a 24/7 operation, also consider how the encoder and computer recover after a crash, power loss, or network interruption.

Choose latency and DVR for a nature channel
For a calm playlist without real-time audience interaction, normal latency is usually more useful than the lowest possible latency. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering; it matters most when the creator is interacting with viewers in real time.
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind while the broadcast is live. Enable it if that behavior suits your channel; disable it if viewers should experience the feed only as it is currently being transmitted. Auto-start and auto-stop can let the encoder control when the stream starts and stops when those options are enabled, but they do not make the computer or network immune to failure.

What YouTube means by a 24/7 broadcast
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents a continuous-feed pattern: a channel can keep one broadcast live for a 24/7 feed while publishing a separate broadcast for a distinct live item, such as an interview, bound to the same stream. This is an API use case, not a guarantee that any consumer playlist player or third-party looping tool will run indefinitely.
In a different YouTube context, “playlist” can mean an HLS media playlist of video segments. That protocol term is not the same as a creator’s playlist of nature videos. For the ordinary encoder workflow, your encoder or streaming software must loop the source videos and send the feed.

Plan for the recording separately
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not guarantee that a continuous 24-hour or longer broadcast will be archived in full, and it does not establish a universal maximum duration for a continuous stream. If you need a durable copy, retain the original footage and plan your own recording or backup process. Verify YouTube’s current behavior before promising viewers that a full-day archive will be available.

YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and include rules covering repetitive or mass-produced content. A loop of stock footage or previously published clips is not automatically eligible for monetization; the status of a specific channel and playlist depends on its rights, originality, and circumstances. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Where a channel is eligible and live monetization is enabled, YouTube lists ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible revenue features. Pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when live monetization is on; mid-rolls may be automated or managed. YouTube cautions that ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.
Do you need a dedicated hardware encoder?
No. YouTube supports software encoders and says creators do not need expensive equipment simply to get started. Professional-grade hardware encoders can be appropriate for higher-production events, but they are an optional choice for a nature playlist.
When comparing software with dedicated hardware, consider total cost, codec and RTMPS support, heat and power behavior, restart recovery, and whether the setup can recover from an encoder or network failure. The important requirement is not a particular device: it is a feed that remains healthy and a practical plan for failures.
Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the stream | Incorrect server URL or stream key, an inactive encoder destination, or a key that has been reset. | Compare the encoder destination with the current values in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder. |
| Stream health warns of instability or viewers buffer | Upload capacity is insufficient or inconsistent, or encoder settings exceed what the connection can sustain. | Check stream-health messages, test the planned resolution and bitrate, and reduce the video load if the upload cannot sustain it. |
| Broadcast stops at a clip boundary | The playlist is not set to repeat, a source file fails, or the encoder exits when playback ends. | Test transitions and end-of-playlist behavior, confirm looping is enabled, and review the encoder’s restart and error-handling options. |
| Video or audio does not play correctly | A source format or codec is incompatible with the encoder settings, or audio is absent or misrouted. | Test representative files, verify supported codecs and audio input, and review the incoming preview and stream health before relying on the feed. |
| The full 24-hour broadcast is not available as an archive | YouTube’s cited automatic-archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed full-day recording. | Keep source files and make a separate recording plan if a complete archive matters. |
