No—not through a documented YouTube Data API method. YouTube’s current instructions put Live Redirect setup in YouTube Studio. The YouTube Live Streaming API can manage broadcasts and their lifecycle, but its reviewed public reference does not document a way to set a redirect destination.
What YouTube Live Redirect does
Live Redirect sends viewers from a live stream or Premiere that has ended to a destination selected by its creator. The destination can be a Premiere or, if the receiving channel permits it, another channel’s live stream. YouTube says autoplay moves viewers to that destination after the source ends.
Redirect setup is separate from starting or ending a broadcast. It determines where viewers go after the source event concludes.
How to configure a redirect in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live.
- Edit the source video and open Customization.
- Under Redirect, add the Premiere or live stream you want viewers to reach.
- For another channel’s live stream, confirm that the receiving channel allows your channel to redirect viewers to its content.
- When the source stream ends, YouTube displays a confirmation indicating that viewers will be redirected.
These steps reflect the Studio route described in YouTube’s Live Redirect Help article. Interface labels and eligibility rules can change, so check that page for the current instructions.

What the YouTube API can—and cannot—automate
The Live Streaming API manages broadcast and stream resources. A broadcast is the event viewers watch; a stream represents the audio/video feed. The API can create and manage broadcasts, bind a broadcast to a stream, and change a broadcast’s lifecycle status.
The documented liveBroadcasts methods include bind, delete, insert, list, transition and update, but no method for configuring a Live Redirect destination. Google describes liveBroadcasts.transition as changing a broadcast’s status and initiating processes associated with the new status. Its documented target states include testing, live and complete; it does not set a viewer destination.

That distinction matters in automation: a script may schedule an event, bind its stream or transition it to a lifecycle state, but those actions do not configure where viewers go when it ends. Likewise, enableAutoStart concerns starting a broadcast, not redirecting viewers afterward. Do not treat a successful transition to live or complete as evidence that a redirect is configured.
Eligibility and cross-channel permission
YouTube’s current Help page says a creator sending a Live Redirect needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. These are YouTube eligibility rules, not API requirements established by the method reference; check the Help page for the current policy.

If the destination is another channel’s live stream, the receiving channel must allow the redirect in YouTube Studio. The sender’s eligibility and the receiver’s permission are separate checks. A sender meeting the eligibility rule does not, by itself, authorize redirection to another channel.
A practical workflow for creators and developers
- Choose the source event and destination, then configure the redirect in YouTube Studio.
- Check the sender’s current eligibility and, for another channel’s live stream, obtain the receiving channel’s permission.
- Use the API for the broadcast tasks it documents—such as creating an event, binding a stream and managing lifecycle state—without representing those tasks as redirect configuration.
- Verify the Studio redirect setting and the destination before the source ends; the documented API does not provide a redirect-setting call to substitute for this check.
