YouTube Live Loop Stream Disconnects on Airtel Broadband: How to Diagnose and Fix It

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If your YouTube Live loop keeps disconnecting on Airtel broadband, first confirm whether the encoder actually lost its connection to YouTube or a viewer is only seeing playback buffer or an error. Then test the streaming computer on Ethernet, check sustained upload capacity against your encoder bitrate, and change one setting at a time. A disconnect alone does not prove Airtel is blocking YouTube Live or that Airtel is the cause.

First, identify what is disconnecting

An encoder losing its connection and a viewer having trouble watching are different problems. Check your encoder’s connection status or dropped-frame counter and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages. If the encoder remains connected while one viewer reports buffering, investigate playback on that viewer’s device and network instead. YouTube’s viewer-side troubleshooting covers playback problems, not a direct fix for an encoder that has lost its ingest connection (YouTube playback troubleshooting).

A viewer may see “Connection to server lost” during playback; that message does not, by itself, establish that your encoder disconnected (YouTube video error guidance). For an encoder-based stream, OBS Project’s 2024 guide says: “If you experience dropped frames or intermittent disconnections while streaming, there is a network issue between your computer and the remote stream ingest server.” That describes the connection path, not which part of the path is failing. OBS also says, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames”; this is not evidence that the ISP must be at fault (OBS connection troubleshooting).

Work through these checks in order

  1. Run a controlled Ethernet test

If practical, connect the streaming computer directly to the Airtel ONT/router with an RJ45 Cat5 or Cat6 cable, then repeat a representative stream test. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming; Airtel also identifies an Ethernet cable as a way to connect a computer to its ONT/router (OBS guidance; Airtel Xstream Fiber guide). A wired test helps isolate Wi-Fi. It does not repair a fault elsewhere between your device, provider, and YouTube ingest. Check that your computer has an Ethernet port or a compatible adapter, and choose a cable long enough for a safe direct connection.

    • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  2. Check the ONT/router and fiber connection

Confirm the ONT/router has power and that its connections are seated. Note the service indicators while the connection is working and when it drops, but interpret them using documentation for your exact device or Airtel support: indicator names and meanings vary by model. Airtel describes the fiber patch cord as delicate; make sure it is properly inserted, and do not sharply bend or repeatedly wiggle it while the service is live (Airtel’s fiber troubleshooting guide).

  3. Measure upload at the times the stream fails

Run an upload-speed test, preferably more than once and near the times disconnects occur. Compare the result with the encoder’s actual outgoing bitrate and leave headroom; do not set the video bitrate equal to a brief speed-test maximum. A plan’s advertised speed or a single good result does not establish that upload will remain stable continuously. Household downloads, cloud backups, other streams, or updates can also compete for capacity. OBS recommends setting bitrate according to the available connection, while YouTube advises testing before going live and monitoring stream health (OBS; YouTube encoder settings).

  4. Compare bitrate with YouTube’s recommendations

YouTube Help’s encoder table recommends these H.264 video bitrates. They are encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that an Airtel connection can sustain them continuously.

    Output YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate YouTube-listed H.264 minimum
    720p at 30 fps 8 Mbps 3 Mbps
    720p at 60 fps 8 Mbps 3 Mbps
    1080p at 30 fps 14 Mbps 5 Mbps
    1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps 6 Mbps

If your upload varies or is close to the encoder’s bitrate, test a lower bitrate before changing several other settings. YouTube’s table varies by codec and output mode; consult the full encoder settings table before applying numbers to other resolutions, frame rates, or codecs.

  5. Change one encoder setting at a time

In OBS, test a lower video bitrate and compare the result over a representative period. If available for your destination, trying another ingest server may help identify a route-specific problem. Leave “Bind to IP” at Default unless you have a specific reason to change it. OBS lists IPv4-only as a diagnostic test; if it makes no difference, return to the IPv4/IPv6 default. Dynamic bitrate can reduce frame loss by lowering quality when the connection cannot keep up, but OBS cautions that it does not fix the underlying cause (OBS connection troubleshooting).

  6. Rule out competing traffic and software

Temporarily pause large downloads, cloud sync, other streams, and scheduled updates, then see whether the disconnect pattern changes. OBS also lists VPNs, security software, network-optimization utilities, and outdated network drivers as possible contributors. If you briefly test with a VPN or security feature disabled, do so cautiously, restore protections immediately afterward, and change only one variable at a time. Airtel’s Wi-Fi guidance also recommends checking network load and connection conditions (Airtel Wi-Fi guidance).

  7. Record the evidence before contacting Airtel

If drops continue over Ethernet with a bitrate below the upload your connection can sustain, note the date and exact time of each drop, duration, encoder symptoms, YouTube stream-health message, whether other devices lose service, and the ONT/router indicators. Include which tests you performed and their results. Check Airtel’s service-status or support channel and ask it to investigate the subscriber line or a local fault. Recording the times and durations can help a provider investigate intermittent problems (Ofcom broadband guidance). Airtel’s guide likewise advises contacting the provider if its checks do not resolve the issue.

What each test can and cannot tell you

Test What it helps isolate What a better result means Limit
Direct Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi Wireless link between the computer and router The stream stays connected longer or dropped frames decrease Does not establish whether a remaining fault is in the router, Airtel path, or YouTube ingest route
Lower encoder bitrate Whether the outgoing stream is demanding more capacity than the connection can reliably provide Fewer dropped frames or no disconnect during a comparable test Reduces stream quality and does not identify every source of instability
Pause competing traffic Whether other use on the local connection is affecting upload headroom More stable streaming while other traffic is paused Does not prove the service is stable at other times or under normal household use
Check ONT/router indicators and other devices Whether the local connection or wider service appears to fail at the same time Correlated loss across devices is useful information for Airtel support Indicator meanings vary by device; lights alone may not identify the fault
Viewer-side playback check The viewer’s device or connection rather than the encoder’s ingest link Other viewers or devices can help distinguish an individual playback issue Viewer buffering is not proof the encoder disconnected
