If your YouTube Live stream disconnects while a prerecorded video is looping, the loop itself is not enough to identify the cause. A loop setting repeats playback; it does not, by itself, prove that the encoder-to-YouTube connection has failed. First note the exact error and time, then check whether the encoder disconnected, dropped frames, or stayed connected while the video reached its loop point.
First, identify what is actually disconnecting
Watch the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room at the same time, if possible. Record the exact Live Control Room message and its timestamp before changing settings. YouTube says the Control Room shows stream health and error messages with instructions, and distinguishes critical from moderate errors.
- Encoder reports a disconnect or dropped frames: investigate the encoder-to-ingest connection and outbound network first.
- Encoder stays connected but the picture or sound fails: inspect the media source, encoder output, and audio/video sources.
- Only one viewer reports a problem: the issue may be local to that viewer. If several affected viewers share a network, that network may be relevant; reports from many viewers on different connections can point toward the encoder.
These clues help narrow the fault domain; none identifies the cause on its own. The encoder, operating system, error message, and timing matter.
Check whether the failure coincides with the loop point
Note whether the stream drops at the exact moment the file ends and starts again. In OBS, a local Media Source can loop a file, and a VLC Video source can loop a playlist. Those options describe playback behavior; the documentation does not say that reaching a loop boundary should disconnect a YouTube stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Write down the time of the disconnect and the time the file reaches its end.
- Check which OBS source is playing the file and whether its loop option is enabled.
- During a controlled test, observe whether the encoder remains connected through the file transition.
If the failure repeatedly matches the transition, investigate that source and the media file. Treat the timing as a useful lead, not a confirmed diagnosis. If it does not match, focus first on stream health and connectivity.
If OBS is your encoder, inspect its connection evidence
OBS defines dropped frames as evidence that the connection to the remote ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. A sufficiently large number of dropped frames can disconnect a stream. Check the dropped-frame indicator and review the OBS connection log around the incident; look for the time and pattern rather than relying on the fact that OBS is in use.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Rising dropped frames or connection errors support investigating the network path and configured bitrate.
- A clean encoder connection while the source freezes or restarts points toward inspecting playback and local output.
- CPU load, software version, configuration, and hardware can also matter; use the log and the actual symptoms to choose what to test.
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance includes configuration, software, hardware, and network factors. Its Windows-specific recommendations should not be applied to other operating systems. The guide also cautions that dynamic bitrate does not repair the underlying connection issue and may reduce quality.
Check YouTube stream health, the encoder, and the outbound connection
YouTube recommends confirming that encoder software is current, checking audio and video sources, looking at encoder CPU load, and testing the outbound internet connection. If the feed looks and sounds correct inside the encoder but Live Control Room reports poor stream health, investigate the outbound connection and the specific error message. If a connection test finds a problem, YouTube recommends contacting the internet service provider.

- Read the Control Room message. Preserve its wording and timestamp so you can compare it with encoder logs.
- Check sources and load. Confirm the intended video and audio are present, and check whether encoder CPU load is unusually high around the failure.
- Test outbound connectivity. If the encoder reports dropped frames or YouTube reports a connection problem, test the connection from the streaming setup rather than assuming the video loop is responsible.
- Compare viewer reports. Determine whether the problem is limited to one viewer, several viewers on a shared network, or viewers on different networks.
Verify encoder settings for an RTMP or RTMPS stream
For RTMP/RTMPS encoder streams, YouTube’s published recommendations include the following. They are a baseline to compare against, not proof that a mismatch caused this particular disconnect.
| Setting | YouTube recommendation | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Rate control | CBR | Check the encoder’s rate-control setting. |
| Video codec | H.264 | Confirm the outgoing video encoder uses H.264. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 | Confirm the outgoing audio codec is one of these. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; no more than 4 seconds | Check the keyframe-frequency setting and compare it with the recommendation. |
YouTube recommends choosing a quality your connection can reliably sustain and testing with movement and audio representative of the intended stream. Use the recorded stream-health error to guide changes, and change one relevant setting at a time.

Run a controlled test before changing several things
YouTube recommends using a private or unlisted test stream to get comfortable with streaming. Use a test to separate a repeatable source transition from a connection problem, without disrupting a public event.
- Record the encoder name and version, operating system, Control Room error and timestamp, dropped-frame status, and whether the event matched the loop boundary.
- Run a private or unlisted test with the same media source and representative audio and movement.
- Change one setting or source condition at a time, then check whether the same symptom recurs.
- Monitor stream health during the test and preserve the relevant encoder log.
YouTube recommends testing encoder failover before an event. Its suggested test is to stop the primary encoder or unplug its Ethernet cable; that is a planned failover test, not a live-stream repair to try during a broadcast.

Other details that can be mistaken for a disconnect
- Stream key: YouTube describes the stream key as credential and address information the encoder uses to send a feed for YouTube to accept. Keep it private; do not publish or share it.
- Latency: latency is the delay between capture and display. YouTube notes that lower latency can mean more playback buffering. Viewer buffering is not, by itself, evidence that the encoder disconnected.
- Archive: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. This is separate from diagnosing a connection drop.
- OBS labels: OBS’s Media Source documentation lists supported media formats and loop controls and is dated January 11, 2022. Check the labels in your installed OBS version rather than assuming every version presents them identically.
Or let it run in the cloud

- Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream runs in the cloud.
- Uploaded quality is preserved up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account.
