If a YouTube 24/7 stream goes black between videos, first check whether it happens only on one device or only on that stream. Compare playback on another supported device, then work through the app or browser, connection, and video-quality checks below. YouTube’s help pages do not identify one universal cause for black intervals between segments of a continuous 24/7 stream, so treat these checks as a way to isolate the problem—not a guaranteed fix.
First, find out how widespread the black screen is
When the picture disappears, note whether the audio continues. Then compare the same stream on another supported device and try a different YouTube video on the original device. These comparisons help narrow down whether the symptom follows the stream, the device or app, or YouTube playback more generally. YouTube recommends testing another supported device when playback problems persist: Troubleshoot video streaming issues.
- Only one device is affected: Focus on that device’s YouTube app, browser, software updates, and connection.
- The same stream goes black on multiple devices: Record when it happens and report the stream and timing to YouTube; the available guidance does not establish a single stream-side cause for this symptom.
- Other YouTube videos also fail: Troubleshoot YouTube playback and the network on the affected device.
- Several streaming services have trouble on the same device: Check the device maker’s support guidance.
Include the device and app or browser, whether audio continued, and whether other videos were affected in your notes. That context makes it easier to distinguish a picture-only rendering problem from a broader playback failure.
Fixes to try on a computer or in a browser
- Update and restart. Install available updates for the computer and browser, close and reopen the browser, then restart the computer.
- Reduce browser load. Close unnecessary tabs and retry the stream.
- Compare browsers or devices. Open the same stream in another supported browser or on another supported device. If playback works there, the problem is more likely limited to the original playback setup.
- If the picture is green as well as faulty, check rendering. YouTube’s guidance for a green player with audio suggests trying another browser, turning off Chrome hardware acceleration, or updating the graphics driver: Troubleshoot video playback issues. That guidance addresses a green picture, not black intervals between 24/7 stream segments, so treat these as adjacent rendering checks rather than confirmed fixes for this symptom.
Fixes to try on a TV or streaming device
- Quit and reopen YouTube. If playback remains faulty, sign out and back in.
- Restart the device. Check for available system software updates and install them.
- Check the connection and playback quality. Try another quality setting and, if possible, compare playback on a different connection.
- Try another playback route. YouTube suggests casting from another device or connecting a laptop to the TV with HDMI as alternate ways to play a title. This is a comparison, not a guaranteed repair: Troubleshoot video streaming issues.
- Check whether other services are affected. If they are, consult the device manufacturer’s support site.
Check connection and video quality
YouTube says playback quality can depend on connection speed, the player and screen size, the quality of the source video, and whether the browser supports newer formats. A different quality setting or connection can help isolate a playback issue, but YouTube’s support pages do not promise that either change will resolve black transitions: Change video quality and Troubleshoot video streaming issues.

For a focused test, keep the device and stream the same while changing one factor at a time. For example, try a lower playback quality first; then restore it and compare a different network. If the black interval remains, note the result rather than assuming the connection was the cause.
Check Autoplay only when videos are queued separately
If the black screen appears as one video ends and another separate video should begin, check Autoplay on the device you are using. YouTube says Autoplay plays another related video after a video ends, and its setting can differ between devices: Autoplay videos.

Autoplay concerns what happens after a video ends. YouTube’s documentation does not show that it fixes a black interval inside one continuous 24/7 stream.
Primetime Channels on TV: understand the broadcast-delay tradeoff
If the playback is a YouTube Primetime Channel on a TV, YouTube says the Default broadcast-delay setting is best for minimizing interruptions. Choosing Decrease aims to reduce live spoilers, but leaves less buffer and increases the likelihood of interruptions. This guidance applies specifically to Primetime Channels on TV; do not assume the same setting or tradeoff applies to every 24/7 stream. YouTube also notes that congestion and other factors can delay live programming: Troubleshoot streaming & video issues.

When to report the problem
If the black screen continues after you compare devices and try the relevant app, browser, connection, and quality checks, send feedback through YouTube’s Help and Feedback flow soon after reproducing it. Include the stream link, approximate time, device, app or browser, and whether audio continued. If other streaming services also fail on the device, contact the device maker as well.
