For a 1080p YouTube live stream, set bitrate according to the encoder’s codec and frame rate: YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for H.264 at 30 fps or 17 Mbps at 60 fps; for AV1 or H.265/HEVC, it recommends 10 Mbps at 30 fps or 12 Mbps at 60 fps. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube does not publish a separate bitrate tier for animated backgrounds or 24/7 duration, so test the actual motion you plan to stream and monitor stream health.
Choose the 1080p bitrate for your codec and frame rate
1080p alone does not determine one unique bitrate. YouTube’s current live encoder table sets recommendations by resolution, frame rate and codec. These are YouTube-published ingestion recommendations, not guaranteed quality outcomes or independently measured performance results. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance also lists minimum values.
| Ingest codec | Frame rate | YouTube recommended bitrate | YouTube minimum bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 1080p30 | 10 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| H.264 | 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 1080p30 | 10 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 1080p60 | 12 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
Use the row matching the signal your encoder actually sends to YouTube. If you are unsure whether the output is 30 or 60 fps, check the encoder’s output settings rather than choosing by how smooth the animation looks on your editing timeline.
Recommended encoder settings
Set bitrate mode and keyframes
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate), as YouTube recommends for live encoding.
- Keyframe interval: two seconds recommended; do not exceed four seconds.
- Protocol and codec: YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 encoding options. Availability of a codec depends on the encoder and workflow you use.
These settings describe the incoming live feed. They are not adjusted by YouTube’s published table for an animated background or for a broadcast that runs continuously.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not confuse bitrate with latency
Bitrate is a video-encoding setting; latency is a separate live-stream choice. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering. Pick latency based on how much real-time interaction matters, rather than changing bitrate to compensate. See YouTube’s general live-stream settings.
Test motion before leaving an animated stream running
A static or slowly moving backdrop may behave differently from fast-moving details, particles or camera pans. YouTube advises testing with movement and audio similar to the intended stream, then previewing the stream in Live Control Room and monitoring quality. Its guidance says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”

- Set the encoder to the intended 1080p frame rate, codec, CBR bitrate and keyframe interval.
- Run a test using the actual animated loop and audio arrangement you expect to use.
- Preview the incoming video in Live Control Room and check that motion, detail and audio are acceptable.
- Watch the stream-health indicator and messages during the test. YouTube’s error guidance distinguishes critical and moderate issues; investigate any warning rather than assuming a bitrate change alone will solve it. See YouTube’s stream-health errors guidance.
What bitrate cannot guarantee for a 24/7 broadcast
A bitrate recommendation does not make an unattended stream reliable by itself. The official settings guidance provides encoder and ingestion parameters, not a complete 24/7 resilience recipe or an uptime guarantee. Continuous operation also depends on the encoder, computer, network, power and recovery design. Test the complete setup and decide how you will detect and recover from interruptions.
For documentary footage, also confirm that you have the rights needed to stream the video and audio. A technically healthy stream does not resolve copyright or other YouTube policy issues; review YouTube’s applicable rules before scheduling continuous playback.
