For a 1080p YouTube loop, use the bitrate that matches both your frame rate and the codec you send: H.264 at 30 fps is 5 Mbps, H.264 at 60 fps is 6 Mbps, and AV1 or H.265/HEVC is 4 Mbps at either frame rate, according to YouTube’s live-encoder recommendations. Set the encoder to CBR with a 2-second keyframe interval, and do not exceed 4 seconds. A 24/7 loop has no separate YouTube bitrate profile.
Recommended 1080p bitrate by codec and frame rate
“1080p” does not specify one bitrate on its own. Choose the row that matches the resolution, frame rate and video codec actually sent to YouTube. These are YouTube’s live-ingestion recommendations, not its separate recommendations for uploading video files. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
| Ingest setting | Codec | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | H.264 | 5 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | H.264 | 6 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
The minimum and recommended figures are the same for each 1080p row in YouTube’s table. Apply the bitrate for the codec your encoder is actually outputting; do not assume that a setting labeled “1080p” is using H.264.
Encoder settings for a 1080p live loop
- Rate control: Constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Set a 2-second interval. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Protocol: Use RTMPS where available; YouTube recommends the encrypted version of RTMP.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest.
- Frame rate: YouTube’s encoder guidance supports up to 60 fps. Choose 30 or 60 fps according to the source and the motion you need to preserve.
- SDR color: YouTube lists Rec. 709 and 8-bit depth among its recommended advanced settings.
These are general YouTube Live encoder settings. YouTube’s guidance does not define a separate bitrate or encoding profile for a continuous loop, nor do these settings guarantee uninterrupted operation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Make sure the connection can sustain the stream
Your outbound upload capacity must carry the total stream bitrate, and YouTube recommends leaving 20% room. Check upload speed rather than relying on download speed: upload capacity may be lower, and other devices or traffic on a shared network can reduce what the encoder actually gets. YouTube’s streaming tips also emphasize connection reliability.
For example, a 6 Mbps video stream needs more than 6 Mbps of dependable available upload capacity once the recommended headroom is included. If the connection is shared or variable, allow additional margin rather than setting the encoder at the connection’s measured maximum. A speed test is only a snapshot; sustained stability matters for a 24/7 broadcast.

Test the loop before leaving it live
- Match the test to the real program. Test with audio and movement similar to the planned loop; a static test image will not expose every issue in moving footage or sound.
- Check the preview before starting. In YouTube Live Control Room, confirm the incoming picture and sound before starting the live event. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Watch stream health after going live. Check audio, video and the stream-health indicators, especially after changing the bitrate, resolution, frame rate or network.
- Keep the ingest key private. The stream key lets the encoder send video to your YouTube stream. If it is compromised, YouTube says it can be reset in Live Control Room. See Manage live stream settings.
Latency and DVR are separate stream settings that affect the viewing experience; they do not determine the bitrate row to use.
Common 1080p loop problems and fixes
- Unstable picture or dropped frames: Check encoder stream health and available upload capacity. Reduce competing network traffic or choose a bitrate the connection can sustain, while retaining headroom.
- Soft or unexpectedly choppy motion: Verify the actual output resolution and frame rate in the encoder, then confirm you selected the bitrate row for that frame rate and codec. A 1080p60 H.264 stream uses a different recommendation than 1080p30 H.264.
- Encoder will not connect: Confirm the selected RTMP/RTMPS destination and stream key match the YouTube stream. Keep the key confidential; reset it in Live Control Room if you suspect exposure.
- Preview has no audio or the wrong picture: Check the encoder’s audio/video sources and test with representative content before starting the event.
- The stream stops when the computer or connection goes offline: A local encoder depends on the computer and its network remaining available. For an unattended loop, plan for power, network and encoder interruptions rather than treating bitrate settings as an uptime guarantee.
Do you need a dedicated hardware encoder?
No. YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started, while recommending professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events. A hardware encoder is an optional appliance choice, not a requirement for a static or pre-recorded loop. Whatever encoder you use, it must support an appropriate codec and settings and have reliable upload capacity. See YouTube live streaming tips.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running without leaving your computer on, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera.
Nothing has to stay powered on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required, one free day per account. Monthly service is $9.99 per month.
