Yes, miniature televisions with working remotes really exist. TinyCircuits’ TinyTV 2 and TinyTV Mini play video from internal storage, respond to a short-range infrared remote, and fit naturally into dollhouses, dioramas, retro displays, and collector shelves. The important catch: they are offline video players, not miniature streaming televisions. They do not receive live broadcasts or connect to Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, or other streaming services. A TinyTV is part miniature prop, part customizable video player, and part maker gadget. The popular-shows reality check
The TinyTV 2 and TinyTV Mini can display converted clips from television programs if you have a lawful source and the resulting file is compatible with the device. They do not arrive with a licensed catalog of recognizable commercial shows, and they do not stream episodes.
- Supported: owner-supplied personal videos, public-domain material, licensed downloads, and clips you otherwise have permission to use.
- Not supported: live broadcast reception, Wi-Fi streaming, app-based services, or a built-in library of current television episodes.
- Preloaded content: demonstrations and other creator- or public-domain material, rather than an established catalog of popular commercial programs. TinyCircuits discusses bundled videos in its support forum.
In other words, the product lets you turn a miniature television into a tiny screen for your favorite clips; it is not a tiny Netflix device.

Choose TinyTV 2 for watching clips
The TinyTV 2 is the practical choice when the video matters. Its 216 × 135 display has a wide, conventional shape that suits cartoons, sitcom scenes, commercials, title sequences, music-video excerpts, sports highlights, and public-domain films better than the Mini’s square screen. It also has physical knobs, a front-facing speaker, 8GB of storage, and an estimated two hours of playback.

It remains extremely small: faces, subtitles, and fine details are still difficult to read. But it is the model most likely to make a recognizable clip feel like a miniature television broadcast rather than an abstract glowing panel.
Choose TinyTV Mini for scale
The Mini is approximately grape-sized and uses a 64 × 64 display. That makes it ideal for cramped rooms, tiny storefronts, compact dioramas, and collectors who prioritize physical presence over legibility. It is better suited to short loops, pixel art, bold animation, title cards, abstract movement, and deliberately lo-fi footage than to dialogue-heavy scenes.
The Mini’s stated storage estimate is generous, but its estimated one-hour battery life is less convenient. Its square screen also means that widescreen video must be letterboxed, cropped, or stretched.

Yes. Both finished models include a Tiny Remote using infrared rather than Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. It handles basic functions such as power, volume, and channel navigation. TinyCircuits says it performs best from approximately 12–18 inches away and should generally be aimed toward the top of the television.

This is part of the theatrical charm: a collector can stand outside a dollhouse and change what is playing. But plan the installation around the limitations. A wall, display case, thick façade, or crowded room can obstruct the receiver, and the remote is not a modern smart-TV interface. Test it before permanently mounting the set. How to load a favorite clip
- Obtain a video file you are entitled to use.
- Install TinyCircuits’ current TinyTV Converter.
- Import the source video and select the appropriate model or output settings.
- Convert the file rather than assuming any ordinary MP4 will play directly.
- Connect the television to a computer with a data-capable USB-C cable. A cable is not included with the TinyTV 2 or TinyTV Mini.
- Transfer the converted file according to the current TinyCircuits instructions.
- Safely disconnect the device and test playback with its buttons or remote.
Start with one short test clip before converting a long movie or building a large library. TinyCircuits’ software and playback formats have changed across generations: older projects used TSV files, while newer workflows may use AVI output. The current official converter is the safest ordinary-user route. What looks good on such a small screen?
Choose footage for the display, not merely footage you enjoy on a phone. Keep important action near the center, use high-contrast scenes, and avoid small subtitles. Make several short clips if you want channel-surfing to feel responsive.

Collector and diorama ideas
The TinyTV 2 fits naturally into many 1:12-style scenes, although the correct scale depends on the proportions of the surrounding furniture. Try it in a retro bedroom, toy store, office, bar, or living room. A Mini can disappear into a much smaller scene as a background detail.
Collectors can assign different clips to multiple sets: a cartoon loop in a child’s room, a news-style loop in an office, or public-domain film footage in a vintage lounge. Because the devices work offline, the display needs no account, advertisements, Wi-Fi, or subscription after the files are loaded.
Limitations to plan for
- Battery: manufacturer estimates are about two hours for TinyTV 2 and one hour for TinyTV Mini, so unattended all-day playback requires a charging plan.
- Sound: the speakers are tiny. The TinyTV 2 has a small front-facing speaker; the Mini has an internal speaker. Enclosure placement and ambient noise affect intelligibility.
- File preparation: “MP4 input” refers to the converter workflow, not guaranteed direct playback of every codec, dimension, frame rate, or audio format.
- Cable: USB-C cables are not included. Use a cable that supports data transfer.
- Remote: short-range infrared requires aiming and sensible placement.
- Rights: use personal, public-domain, licensed, or otherwise authorized material.
Firmware and recovery caution
Do not update firmware casually. Back up your video files, confirm the exact model, and follow TinyCircuits’ current instructions. A March 2026 forum report describes a TinyTV 2 that became unusable after an update and was recovered using model-specific DFU mode and UF2 firmware guidance. That is a documented failure case, not evidence that updates routinely damage the products.
If a screen goes black or the device stops responding, consult the TinyCircuits recovery discussion and the company’s firmware repository. Never mix firmware intended for the TinyTV 2, TinyTV Mini, and DIY kit.

Which one should you buy?
Buy the TinyTV 2 if you want recognizable show clips, a more useful viewing experience, a wider screen, physical knobs, and longer estimated playback. It is the best starting point for most collectors.
Buy the TinyTV Mini if maximum smallness matters more than readable video. It is the better novelty object for extremely compact scenes and atmospheric loops.
Consider the DIY Kit only if assembly, customization, firmware experimentation, or enclosure work is part of the appeal. TinyCircuits listed it at $74.95 and sold out when checked, so availability and workflow may differ from the finished models.
