What is Young Sherlock about?
Set in 1870s Oxford, the series begins with Sherlock facing a murder investigation that threatens his liberty. His meeting with James Moriarty draws him deeper into the case, which grows into a globe-trotting conspiracy, according to Amazon’s season synopsis.

Who stars in the series?
Hero Fiennes Tiffin plays Sherlock Holmes. The announced cast also includes Dónal Finn as James Moriarty, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons and Colin Firth.
Guy Ritchie directed and executive-produced the series. Matthew Parkhill is its television creator and showrunner, as well as an executive producer. Amazon says Ritchie is set to return to direct the first episode of season two.

Is Young Sherlock based on a book?
TV Insider identifies the series as based on Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock book series. Available reporting does not specify which individual volume, if any, supplies the adaptation’s plot, so it is more accurate to describe the show as based on the series than to name a particular book.
Is it connected to Guy Ritchie’s Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes films?
The materials announcing the series establish that Ritchie directed both projects, but do not establish that Young Sherlock shares continuity with the Robert Downey Jr. films. Treat it as a separate origin-story series unless Amazon or the filmmakers confirm a connection.
What has Amazon said about its audience?
Amazon reported that the first season had 45 million viewers in its first 28 days and ranked among the top 10 Prime Original seasons of all time. Those are Amazon’s figures; they have not been independently verified.
