You Season 5 is the completed, 10-episode final season of Netflix’s thriller about Joe Goldberg. It brings Joe and Kate back to New York, where their polished public life collides with Joe’s past. All 10 episodes became available on Netflix on April 24, 2025.
What is You Season 5 about?
The season opens three years after Joe Goldberg and Kate Lockwood leave London. They are back in New York: Kate leads Lockwood Corporation, while Joe is presented to the public as her devoted, charming husband. Their promise to do good gives Joe a new identity to perform, but his history and impulses threaten the ideal life they are trying to build.
Returning to New York also brings the story back toward Mooney’s Bookstore, a place tied to the series’ beginnings. Co-showrunner Michael Foley told Netflix Tudum that the team wanted to bring Joe home and explore “this dichotomy of the old and the new.” That creative aim frames the final season, though it does not mean every thread resolves neatly.

Is Season 5 the final season, and how many episodes are there?
Yes. Season 5 is the fifth and final season, and it has 10 episodes. Netflix announced it as the conclusion in March 2023. Executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter said they had “always conceived it as a five season journey” after Caroline Kepnes’s book was shared with them. Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti developed the series; Gamble stepped back from day-to-day showrunning for Season 5 while remaining an executive producer, and Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo became co-showrunners.

How was Season 5 received at launch?

In that same reporting window, Netflix said the season reached the Top 10 in 88 countries and ranked No. 1 in 37. These are Netflix’s own launch figures, not independent audience measurements.
Is You based on a book?
Yes. The television series is based on Caroline Kepnes’s books. The original novel is an option if you want to explore the story’s source material, but it is not a Season 5 episode guide, and the television plot should not be assumed to reproduce the book exactly. Netflix reported that sales of the first book increased by 584% after Season 1 premiered in 2018; that figure is Netflix’s retrospective reporting about the post-premiere period.
