The Seattle Mariners issued a condolence statement, and MLB Trade Rumors reported that accounts from Venezuela said authorities believed a heart attack while Medina was driving caused a fatal crash. That account has not been independently established here.
What happened to Yoervis Medina?
MLB Trade Rumors attributed the crash account to reports from Venezuela, which said authorities believed Medina suffered a heart attack while driving. The reported belief links the medical emergency to the crash; it should not be treated as a confirmed cause of death. The October 31, 2025 reports establish when his death was reported, not necessarily the exact date he died.
The Seattle Mariners expressed condolences in a statement reproduced by Us Weekly: “We are saddened to hear of the passing of former Mariners pitcher Yoervis Medina. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.”
Medina’s MLB career
Medina, a Venezuelan professional pitcher, appeared in Major League Baseball for the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs between 2013 and 2015. MLB Trade Rumors reports that he recorded a 3.08 career ERA over 146 innings and 146 games, with a 23.1% strikeout rate and a 12.4% walk rate.
