Spoilers for Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 13, “Give The World Away.” The penultimate episode turns the Duttons’ immediate financial crisis into a choice about what the ranch is for—and who should own it. Its seven key beats run from a desperate auction to a possible land transfer that the finale, “Life Is a Promise,” still has to resolve.
What happens in “Give The World Away”?
After John’s death, the Duttons face pressure to meet the costs of keeping the ranch. They begin selling assets, enlist horse trainer Travis to help make the auction pay, and watch Jamie seek a political strategy as scrutiny around Market Equities and Sarah’s death intensifies. Meanwhile, Kayce considers leaving the ranch behind—and the episode closes on a possible arrangement that could return the land to Indigenous ownership without necessarily ending the Duttons’ connection to it.
The seven biggest moments and reveals
1. The Duttons start selling off the ranch
The family puts horses, wagons, tractors and other assets up for sale. It is a fire sale in the practical sense: the ranch’s existing operation cannot simply carry on as before while the family faces immediate financial pressure. The liquidation buys time, but also strips away things needed to keep the ranch running.
2. Beth puts the tax burden in the hundreds of millions
Beth describes the estate-tax problem as “hundreds of millions,” according to TheWrap’s recap. That is Beth’s estimate in the story, not an established liability; TheWrap’s writer questions whether the figure is right. The episode uses the looming bill to explain the urgency, rather than settling the exact amount.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Beth asks Travis for help after seeing his auction tactics
Beth travels to Texas and watches Travis use his crew as rival buyers, driving up horse prices. She dislikes his showmanship, but recognizes that his salesmanship may help the family. She asks him to bring those tactics to Montana.
4. The horse sale reportedly brings in about $30 million
With Travis working the auction, the sale brings in about $30 million, as TheWrap reports. Beth says the proceeds buy the family another year. That is a short-term reprieve, not a return to normal ranch business: the Duttons have sold cattle and other assets they would need to raise or grow what the ranch produces.

5. Christina tells Jamie to “steer into the crash”
As police attention turns toward Market Equities and damaging news about Jamie’s relationship with Sarah emerges, he seeks advice from Christina, his former campaign manager. Her strategy, as TVLine’s recap describes it, is to “steer into the crash”: investigate John and Sarah’s deaths, deny the affair and frame John’s murder publicly as an attack on Montana voters’ right to choose their representative. It is a political counterattack, not a guarantee that Jamie can control the fallout.
6. Rainwater and Mo confront the pipeline’s limits; the bunkhouse grieves
Rainwater and Mo look at the pipeline construction and discuss what they can—and cannot—do about it. TVLine recounts Rainwater’s observation: “It’s hard to build a pipeline” without pipe. The line belongs to the episode’s pipeline dispute, not a general claim about construction. Back at the ranch, Teeter mourns Colby, while the bunkhouse reckons with the sale and uncertainty about what work will remain.

7. Kayce’s choice points toward a land transfer
Kayce tells Monica he is considering walking away from the ranch and keeping his actions from following them. The possible solution that emerges is more complicated than a clean exit: the ranch may be given to, or sold for a nominal amount to, Rainwater and the Broken Rock community, with the Duttons retaining the right to live and work there. TheWrap reads this as a developing plan, not a completed transfer. Hulu’s season guide connects the possibility to the Indigenous land-return promise invoked in the prequel 1883; Episode 13 leaves the arrangement for the finale to clarify.

“Give The World Away” is Season 5’s penultimate episode. Its auction supplies a temporary financial lifeline, while the proposed transfer changes the question from how the Duttons can preserve their old operation to whether the family can remain on the land under new ownership. Jamie’s plan, the pipeline dispute and the bunkhouse’s future remain unresolved as the story heads into Episode 14, “Life Is a Promise.”
