In short: Jamie tells Beth that Garrett Randall was responsible for the attacks on the Duttons. Beth refuses to accept his explanation alone and gives him a third option: kill Garrett. Jamie shoots his biological father, and Beth photographs him disposing of the body, which gives her leverage over him. Before she confronts Jamie, Beth marries Rip in an improvised ceremony. Kayce completes his vision quest and tells Monica, “I saw the end of us,” but the episode never explains what the two paths in his vision mean. Jimmy chooses to go back to Texas with Emily.

Which episode this is and what it sets up
Peacock lists the finale as Season 4, Episode 10, “Grass on the Streets and Weeds on the Rooftops,” with a runtime of 76 minutes. Its short official synopsis says newfound truths threaten the Duttons’ bond, Jimmy comes home, and Beth takes matters into her own hands. That synopsis is the only part of the episode’s description that is a plot summary; the rest of this article draws on recaps of the episode’s dialogue and events.
Paramount Network’s Yellowstone hub also lists a “Behind the Story” feature for the finale. Its description says the cast discusses Beth and Rip’s no-frills wedding, Jamie’s farewell to Garrett, and Kayce’s emotional vision quest. The listing describes the feature; it is not a transcript of it, so it does not add any creator or cast statement about what the episode means.

Beth’s confrontation with Jamie
Beth’s suspicion starts with Jamie. After learning that he met with Riggins, the imprisoned man connected to the attacks, she initially believes Jamie was behind the hits. The confrontation that follows is the finale’s central power shift.
Jamie names Garrett
When Beth questions him, Jamie tells her that Garrett was responsible. That claim is the turning point: it moves the blame from Jamie to the man who has been Jamie’s biological father, and it sets up the forced choice that follows.

Two bad options, then a third
Beth offers Jamie two choices, both of which would lead to his death. She then gives him a third option: kill Garrett. Jamie does it. The episode presents this as an ultimatum Jamie accepts to satisfy Beth and protect himself. It does not make the earlier attacks Jamie’s own plan, so the episode leaves Garrett as the person the story identifies as behind them.
The photograph
While Jamie disposes of Garrett’s body, Beth photographs him. That photograph is the source of her leverage. Beth leaves Jamie alive, but he now has a secret that she can use against him. The episode shows this as blackmail based on the picture. It does not show how any authority would treat the act, so any discussion of legal consequences goes beyond what the finale establishes.
Why Beth marries Rip before confronting Jamie
Beth marries Rip in a hurried ranch ceremony before she confronts Jamie. She says she wants to be a married woman for what she plans to do the next day. The wedding is one of the finale’s memorable events, and Paramount Network’s companion listing names it as such. Reading the marriage as Beth formalizing her bond with Rip before facing what her plan will cost is an interpretation of her motive, not a fact the episode states outright. The episode also presents the wedding and the Jamie plot in sequence; it does not make the marriage the cause of the plot.
Kayce’s vision: what he says and what stays unexplained
Kayce completes his vision quest, and the vision includes two paths. When he returns to Monica, he tells her, “I saw the end of us.” TVLine’s recap of the finale dialogue records that line, and it is the clearest statement the episode makes about the vision’s meaning.
Rank #4
The finale does not say what either path represents. The line itself does not establish that the couple separates, that Kayce chooses Avery, or that the vision predicts any specific event. Readers who see those outcomes in the ending are reading the symbolism into the scene, not reporting something the episode confirms.

Jimmy returns from Texas with Emily. After John lets him choose his future, Jimmy decides to go back to Texas with her. John tells him that he will always have a place at the ranch. The ending therefore takes Jimmy away from the Yellowstone while keeping his connection to John and the ranch intact. Whatever happens to him after the finale is not shown.

What the finale leaves open
Most of the finale’s plot is shown directly. Four questions are not settled by the episode itself:
Quick Recap
| Open question | Why the episode does not settle it |
|---|---|
| Was Jamie’s killing of Garrett only about Beth’s ultimatum? | The episode gives the ultimatum and the self-protection reading. Any deeper motive for Jamie is for the viewer to infer. |
| Does the marriage tie Beth’s plan to Rip? | Beth states a reason tied to the next day’s plan. Any larger symbolic link is interpretation. |
| What do the two paths in Kayce’s vision mean? | The finale never identifies either path, so claims about Kayce and Monica’s future or Kayce’s choice of Avery are speculation. |
| What comes after Jimmy’s return to Texas? | The episode shows his decision and John’s open door, not the life he builds in Texas. |
