What is Yellowjackets about?
Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Yellowjackets follows a girls’ high-school soccer team after its plane crashes in a remote northern wilderness. The series moves between the teenagers’ struggle to survive and the adult survivors’ lives nearly 25 years later, where trauma, memory, secrecy and unresolved consequences continue to connect the two periods. Paramount+ describes it as a survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama. Paramount+ series page

The wilderness timeline begins in 1996; the second timeline takes place roughly a quarter-century afterward. The dual structure reveals how the group’s crisis shaped its survivors without promising that every mystery will be resolved.
Is Yellowjackets based on a true story?
It is not a retelling of a documented crash. Paramount+ reports that co-creator Ashley Lyle said the 1972 Andes crash involving an Uruguayan amateur rugby team was “absolutely” an inspiration. That establishes a partial influence, not that the fictional team, events or survivors represent the real people involved. Paramount+ Season 3 explainer
