Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Neither product’s reviewed documentation establishes a complete, hands-off fixed-time 24/7 channel workflow. Choose based on whether you need an operator-started production or verified external automation—not on the assumption that a YouTube event or playlist starts itself.
What “scheduled” means for a prerecorded live channel
Three separate tasks are easy to confuse:
- Creating a YouTube event: setting up the event page in YouTube Studio.
- Playing prerecorded video: sending files or a playlist through an encoder while the stream is live.
- Scheduling the channel itself: starting and stopping playback automatically at specified clock times, potentially around the clock.
XSplit’s YouTube guide covers selecting an already-created scheduled event in its broadcast settings. That documents attaching a broadcast to the event; it does not establish that XSplit automatically launches the encoder at the event time. vMix documents playlist automation, but its knowledge base expressly distinguishes that from time-of-day scheduling.
At a glance: XSplit Broadcaster vs vMix
| Decision point | XSplit Broadcaster | vMix |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Live output | XSplit’s guide documents configuring a YouTube broadcast and its properties. XSplit YouTube guide | vMix’s feature guide lists YouTube Live output and built-in RTMP streaming. vMix features |
| Scheduled YouTube event | Select an event already created in YouTube Studio; this is event association, not proof of automatic encoder launch. XSplit YouTube guide | The reviewed vMix material establishes YouTube output, but not comparable selection of a scheduled YouTube event. |
| Prerecorded playback | XSplit’s support manual index lists a “Creating a Video Playlist” guide. The available guide listing does not establish the precise playback controls or looping behavior. XSplit support | Supports video file and List inputs, plus playlist automation. The scheduling article describes items playing back-to-back or looping. vMix scheduling knowledge base |
| Time-of-day 24/7 programming | Not established in the cited material; do not infer it from scheduled-event selection or a playlist guide. | Not supported as built-in time-of-day scheduling for continuous television programming, according to vMix’s knowledge base, last updated January 17, 2025. vMix scheduling knowledge base |
| Operating system and requirements | XSplit lists Windows 10/11 64-bit and 8 GB RAM among requirements. XSplit system requirements | A comparable current requirements figure was not established in the cited material. |
| Licensing information | The product page lists free, monthly, yearly and lifetime options and describes a 720p free-streaming limit without watermark. Terms can change; confirm current details on the product page. XSplit Broadcaster | A current comparable edition and price matrix was not established in the cited material. |
How the two workflows differ
XSplit: connect a broadcast to a scheduled YouTube event
Create the event in YouTube Studio first, then configure the XSplit broadcast to select that scheduled event. XSplit’s official guide also says the channel must have live streaming enabled; its setup information describes verification and a possible wait the first time streaming is enabled. YouTube’s interface and eligibility requirements can change, so check the current YouTube Help guidance for live streaming before planning a launch.
This workflow is useful when you want a scheduled public event page and an operator or separate automation will start the encoder. It is not evidence that XSplit will begin broadcasting unattended at the scheduled time. XSplit’s support index lists a playlist guide, but the material reviewed here does not establish enough detail to promise a particular playlist loop, transition, or scheduling behavior.

vMix: automate playback, but not the clock-based channel schedule
vMix documents video-file and List inputs, playlist automation, and YouTube Live output. Its knowledge-base article describes basic playback automation: items can play back-to-back or loop. But vMix states that it does not support time-of-day scheduling for a continuous television-style program. As the vMix knowledge base puts it: “vMix is primarily designed for live streaming single events and as such does not support time of day scheduling.”
That distinction matters for a channel intended to run without an operator. A list that advances or loops while vMix is running is not, by itself, a clock-based rundown that starts the broadcast at a set hour. If you plan to use external orchestration, validate the complete start, playback, reconnection, and stop workflow for your vMix version before relying on it.

Which should you choose?
- Choose XSplit when selecting an already-created YouTube event is part of your workflow and an operator or separately verified automation will start the broadcast. Confirm the current playlist controls in XSplit’s full support documentation if playback behavior is critical.
- Consider vMix when its file/List inputs and playback automation suit your production, and you can accept an operator-started stream or build and verify an external scheduling arrangement. Its documented playlist automation does not supply built-in time-of-day scheduling.
- Do not choose either on an assumption of unattended fixed-time starts. The reviewed documentation does not prove that XSplit provides this capability, and vMix says its software does not support time-of-day scheduling for continuous programming. Ask the vendor or test the exact software version and automation architecture you intend to use.
- If the requirement is only a scheduled public event page, keep that separate from encoder launch automation and playlist scheduling. XSplit documents selecting a scheduled YouTube event; the reviewed vMix sources do not document equivalent event selection.
Eligibility, computer, and licensing checks
YouTube channel readiness
XSplit’s YouTube setup guide says live streaming must be enabled for the channel and describes verification and a possible first-time enablement wait. Check YouTube’s current requirements and account status before announcing an event; do not rely on an older setup description for current policy or timing.
Windows requirements for XSplit
XSplit’s requirements page lists Windows 10/11 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, and DirectX 10.1-capable graphics among its requirements. These are XSplit’s stated product requirements, not a comparative performance test. The cited material does not establish a like-for-like current vMix hardware requirement, so assess the vMix version you plan to run against its current vendor documentation.

License comparison
XSplit’s product page describes free, monthly, yearly, and lifetime options, including a free-streaming limit of 720p without a watermark. Because licensing terms and prices are subject to change, check the current XSplit Broadcaster page before choosing a plan. A current comparable vMix edition-and-price matrix was not established here, so compare it directly with the version and license you need rather than assuming the two products’ tiers align.

- Write down whether you need a public scheduled event, a playlist that runs once a stream is started, or automatic start and stop at fixed times.
- Decide who or what starts the encoder, and what should happen after a computer restart, network interruption, or YouTube disconnect.
- Test the full path—including scheduled-event association if applicable, playlist playback, and stream recovery—using the exact software version and operating environment you expect to keep running.
- Check that you have the rights to stream every recording, including music, archival footage, and other third-party material. A prerecorded program being sent as a live broadcast does not remove copyright or YouTube policy obligations.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want uploaded recordings to keep a YouTube channel live without leaving a production computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos and playlists. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
