XSplit Broadcaster Bitrate Settings for YouTube on Indian Broadband

Use YouTube’s codec- and resolution-specific bitrate targets in XSplit, then validate sustained upload with an output test and private rehearsal. India has no separate official bitrate table.

For YouTube streaming with XSplit Broadcaster, use YouTube’s H.264 target of 8 Mbps for 720p30 or 720p60, 14 Mbps for 1080p30, and 17 Mbps for 1080p60—only when your connection can sustain the selected setting. There is no separate India-specific bitrate table in the official guidance reviewed. Test the actual upload and stream route you will use, then lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if the connection is unstable.

Choose a bitrate that matches your output and connection

YouTube’s recommended video bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec. The figures below are H.264 targets from YouTube’s live encoder guidance, not guarantees about the upload speed available on your internet plan. Minimums are lower, but meeting a minimum does not mean the picture will look as good as it can at the recommended bitrate.

YouTube ingest resolution and frame rate H.264 minimum video bitrate H.264 recommended video bitrate
480p30 0.4 Mbps 4 Mbps
720p30 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p60 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p30 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p60 6 Mbps 17 Mbps

These are video bitrates; allow for audio and other network use as well. YouTube recommends 128 kbps stereo audio. A household connection or PC doing other uploads can compete with the stream, so a speed-test result is not a promise that the selected YouTube ingest route will sustain the same throughput continuously.

Starting point if you have not tested yet

Begin with 720p30 and test it under realistic conditions. Move to a higher row only after the lower setting is stable. This is a practical starting workflow inferred from YouTube’s targets and XSplit’s test guidance, not an official preset for India.

Codec changes the target

YouTube also lists lower recommended targets for AV1 and H.265 than for H.264 in some modes. For AV1/H.265, its recommended values are 3 Mbps at 480p30; 6 Mbps at 720p30/60; 10 Mbps at 1080p30; 12 Mbps at 1080p60; 15 Mbps at 1440p30; 24 Mbps at 1440p60; 30 Mbps at 2160p30; and 35 Mbps at 2160p60. For H.264, the corresponding recommended values are 4, 8, 8, 14, 21, 34, 42, and 50 Mbps. Choose only a codec XSplit actually offers for your system and YouTube output; available encoders depend on hardware and drivers.

Set up YouTube encoding in XSplit Broadcaster

  1. Edit the YouTube output: In Broadcaster, open the YouTube output’s settings and go to Video Encoding.
  2. Choose the encoder and output mode: Set the resolution and frame rate you intend to stream, then choose an available codec. XSplit identifies x264 as CPU-based; hardware options such as Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC, or AMD VCE depend on the system and service.
  3. Set the video bitrate: Use the YouTube target for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate as your ceiling to test against. If the connection cannot sustain it, step down rather than forcing the target.
  4. Use CBR: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) for live encoding. XSplit says most streaming platforms require CBR and advises against variable bitrate (VBR) unless the platform supports it.
  5. Set keyframes to 2 seconds: YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
  6. Configure audio: Use AAC where available; YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and recommends 128 kbps stereo.
  7. Prefer RTMPS: YouTube recommends the encrypted RTMPS protocol. Use it if the XSplit output supports it.
  8. Test the selected output: Run XSplit’s Test Bandwidth for the chosen service/server. If choosing an ingest server manually, XSplit advises considering both average ping and jitter, not just the lowest single “Last” ping.
  9. Rehearse privately: Send a private or otherwise appropriate test using representative motion and audio. Check YouTube stream health before a public broadcast.

XSplit’s output properties guide covers output configuration, while its FPS and network troubleshooting guide explains how to interpret performance problems.

What matters on Indian broadband

The same YouTube encoder targets apply in India; the reviewed official materials do not establish a separate national setting or provider-specific bitrate. Advertised download speed, a plan label, or a generic speed test cannot establish the sustained upload available to your stream at a particular time and route. Measure the connection at the router and time you plan to broadcast, then use XSplit’s selected-output test and a rehearsal to validate it.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
  • Shared or variable upload: Leave room for other devices and background uploads. If the output test or rehearsal is unstable, lower bitrate, resolution, or frame rate.
  • High-motion material: Games, fast camera movement, or busy scenes can look less clean when bitrate is constrained. Lowering resolution can be a better trade than keeping a high resolution that the connection cannot support.
  • Network adapter and route: XSplit can use different network adapters where that option is enabled. A wired Ethernet connection may help when Wi-Fi is the weak link, but it will not fix ISP congestion or guarantee upload capacity.

NVIDIA’s 2019 XSplit guide contains older example pairings between upload speed and bitrate. Treat those as historical context, not a substitute for YouTube’s current target table or testing your own connection.

Troubleshoot instability and dropped frames

YouTube reports dropped frames or the stream buffers

  • Run XSplit’s bandwidth test again for the selected output and server, then repeat a private rehearsal.
  • Reduce bitrate first if sustained upload is insufficient; if necessary, also reduce resolution or frame rate to match a lower YouTube row.
  • Pause cloud backups, file uploads, and other competing traffic. Check whether other active devices are using the connection.
  • If Wi-Fi appears to be the unstable link and your setup supports it, try a wired connection. Changing adapters cannot resolve a congested ISP route.

The picture is unstable even though upload seems adequate

  • Check the XSplit encoder and system load. x264 uses CPU; hardware encoding availability depends on the system and drivers.
  • If CPU or GPU use is high, reduce encoding demand. XSplit also suggests reducing stage resolution or frame rate when system resource use is high; that is distinct from an upload problem.
  • When selecting a server manually, assess average ping and jitter together rather than choosing solely by one low ping reading.

The image looks soft or blocky

  • Confirm that output resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate correspond to the YouTube target you meant to use.
  • Do not confuse a YouTube minimum with its recommended bitrate. If you cannot sustain the recommended target, use a lower output mode instead of expecting the minimum to provide equivalent image quality.
  • For fast motion, test a lower resolution at a stable bitrate; an unstable high-resolution stream is not necessarily an improvement.

XSplit points to low upload, ISP trouble, and other active devices as possible causes of disrupted livestreams. Its troubleshooting advice also separates network issues from CPU/GPU load and stage settings; diagnose the symptom before changing unrelated settings.

Keep a pre-stream checklist

  • Match resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate to a YouTube encoder-table row.
  • Use CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and the recommended audio setting where available.
  • Run XSplit’s bandwidth test for the selected output and rehearse with representative content.
  • Check YouTube stream health, and reduce the output if the connection or encoder cannot sustain it.
  • For a YouTube broadcast, check that you have rights to the music, footage, and other material you use, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and reused-content rules before streaming.

For a separate planning route that does not depend on a PC staying on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping an uploaded-video YouTube stream live. It is not an XSplit encoder setting or a way to stream live camera footage.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a 24/7 YouTube loop, StreamNeo offers a different workflow: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery restarts the stream if YouTube drops it. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly service costs $9.99 per month.
