Yes, X pursued a YouTube-like app for televisions, and a dedicated X TV app later appeared on some TV platforms. But the March 2024 headline that X “will launch” on Samsung and Amazon TVs is now outdated: reporting confirmed a beta on Amazon Fire TV and Google TV in September 2024, while broad availability on Samsung smart TVs has not been established.
What X announced
In March 2024, X announced plans for a television app focused on watching long-form video on a larger screen. An initial report described Amazon Fire TV and Samsung smart TVs as target platforms; Elon Musk separately said smart-TV access for long-form X videos was “coming soon.” The platform list and timing were not a detailed, official compatibility announcement. Fortune’s March 2024 report attributed the YouTube-like interface description to an unnamed source. Reuters reporting, republished by Investing.com, covered Musk’s confirmation.
The app fitted X’s broader effort to make video a more prominent part of the service and create a living-room destination for creators, publishers, live events, and current-affairs content. That strategic ambition did not mean X had already built a service with YouTube’s breadth or capabilities.

Which TVs and streaming devices are supported?
The strongest evidence concerns Fire TV and Google TV. It does not establish a current, universal rollout across Samsung television models. Check the app store on the exact device you plan to use: availability can depend on model, operating-system version, country, and store region.

“Amazon Fire TV” refers to a platform family that includes streaming sticks, streaming boxes, and televisions with Fire TV built in; it does not mean every Amazon-branded television automatically supports every Fire TV app. Amazon’s Fire TV Edition FAQ describes general platform compatibility, not X-specific support. The app itself must still be available for the particular device.
What the app was supposed to do
In April 2024, Yaccarino described a planned experience with enhanced video search, trending-video recommendations, AI-organized topics, and cross-device viewing so someone could start on a phone and continue on a TV. The proposed app was also framed as a way to watch long-form X video on a television. These are announced features; the announcements and store listing cited above do not verify that each is currently implemented or works as described.

A television interface can make X videos easier to watch from the couch, but a YouTube-like appearance does not establish equivalent search depth, recommendation quality, channel tools, accessibility, or creator monetization.
Can X TV replace YouTube?
That depends on what you watch. X’s potential advantage is content connected to live events, breaking news, public conversation, and accounts or publishers already active on the platform. A TV app could make that material more convenient to watch away from a phone.

YouTube is the more established general-purpose TV video service, with a mature creator ecosystem, search and recommendations, channels, playlists, subscriptions, live streams, and broad device reach. Amazon says its official YouTube app is available on compatible Fire TV streaming players and Fire TV Edition smart TVs. Amazon’s YouTube-on-Fire-TV information page illustrates that incumbent availability; it does not establish equivalent reach for X TV.
There is also a longer history behind X’s television ambitions: Twitter previously offered TV-oriented products and live-event programming, but that history is not evidence that the current X TV app has succeeded or failed. Fortune’s report describes those earlier efforts.

How to check whether it works on your TV
- Identify the platform. Check whether your television uses Samsung Tizen, Fire TV, Google TV, Android TV, or another system. A streaming stick connected to a television uses the stick’s platform, not the television’s built-in one.
- Open that device’s app store. Search for “X TV” on the device itself. A Google Play listing does not guarantee that an app will appear for every TV or region.
- Confirm the exact model and region. If the app is missing, model-year filtering, operating-system compatibility, or country settings may be factors. The available evidence does not identify a complete list of supported models or countries.
- Do not buy hardware solely for X TV. Verify that the app is currently listed for the intended device before spending money. A platform-level compatibility statement is not confirmation of X’s support for a particular model.
What the original headline gets wrong now
“X will launch” makes the app sound unreleased, while the later Fire TV and Google TV beta reports and Google Play listing show that a TV-focused X app did appear. But replacing that future tense with a blanket claim that X launched on Samsung and Amazon TVs would also go too far: the evidence confirms neither universal Fire TV support nor a broad Samsung rollout.
