The short answer: WWE’s official materials confirm that R-Truth left WWE temporarily in 2025 and later returned. They do not establish whether he was fired or whether his contract simply was not renewed, and the preview that features Triple H does not settle that question on its own. Triple H’s account is part of the episode, but the public preview does not give his full version of the exchange, so this article separates what is documented from what viewers would need to watch the episode to hear.
What WWE and Netflix have officially confirmed
Four dated or attributed facts can be stated with confidence, based on WWE and Netflix materials:
- The topic. WWE’s official sneak peek for WWE: Unreal describes a discussion of R-Truth’s temporary exit from WWE in 2025. The participants named are R-Truth, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and Road Dogg.
- The return. WWE’s June 9, 2025 Raw announcement said R-Truth would speak on the show following his return at Money in the Bank. That announcement establishes a dated return and a follow-up appearance. It does not describe the contract decision that preceded the exit.
- The Season 2 casting. Netflix announced on January 6, 2026 that Season 2 would feature R-Truth. The season consists of five 50-minute episodes and was scheduled to premiere January 20, 2026.
- Triple H’s role. Netflix’s July 31, 2025 article identifies Paul Levesque, known as Triple H, as WWE chief content officer since 2022. That title explains his position at WWE, but it says nothing about what he decided regarding R-Truth.
“Fired” and “not renewed” are not the same claim
Public discussion of this story tends to use “fired” as a catch-all. The two words describe different situations, and the difference matters for how the episode should be read.
- Fired usually means the employer ended the working relationship while the contract was still in effect, or terminated the employee for cause.
- Not renewed means the contract reached its end date and the employer chose not to offer a new one, so the separation comes from the expiry rather than a termination decision.
WWE’s sneak-peek title quotes R-Truth saying, “I wasn’t sure if I was fired or not.” That line is R-Truth’s own uncertainty as presented in the title. It is not an independently verified transcript, and it does not tell viewers which of the two situations applied. Any article that calls the exit a firing or a non-renewal as settled fact is going beyond the official record.

What the episode shows and what it does not
The episode is a WWE: Unreal discussion among three participants, and its official description is the best available account of its content. Based on that description, viewers can expect the three to talk about the 2025 exit. Beyond that, the public materials leave several things open:
- The exact wording of any contract conversation between R-Truth and WWE management.
- Who made the decision and what reasons were given at the time.
- Whether each participant’s account matches the others. The preview does not give a complete transcript of any version.
Because of those gaps, the headline phrase “what actually happened” should be read as “what Triple H says in the episode” rather than as a verified outcome. Triple H’s statements in the episode are his own account, and they should be attributed to him, not treated as an independently confirmed record.

Where to watch and how to check the claim yourself
Netflix is the streaming service named in WWE’s official preview and listed on Netflix’s title page for WWE: Unreal, including Season 2 materials. Availability depends on territory and can change, so the title may not appear in every country.
- Open Netflix and search for “WWE: Unreal”.
- Select the title and choose Season 2.
- Look for the episode that includes R-Truth. The official materials cited here do not give a specific episode number in the public descriptions, so scan the episode synopses.
- Note the exact words each participant uses, and attribute them to the speaker when you describe them.
If a transcript is important for your reporting or discussion, a reliable direct transcript of the episode is the only way to check the exact contract exchange. Secondary summaries that describe the conversation in detail should be compared with the episode before being repeated as fact.

What is still unknown
- The contract terms, including whether an end date or a termination notice was involved.
- The decision-maker’s rationale, as stated by WWE at the time.
- A complete account from each participant beyond the official preview description.
The public record supports a temporary exit in 2025, a return, and a Season 2 discussion. It does not yet support a verdict on whether R-Truth was fired, not renewed, or separated for another reason.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The Bottom Line
R-Truth’s 2025 exit from WWE is confirmed as temporary, and the Season 2 episode gives Triple H and R-Truth a public platform to discuss it. Whether he was fired or not renewed is still not settled by the official materials, so treat any firm claim about the contract as unverified until the episode itself is checked.
