If your Wirecast YouTube stream has no sound, trace the signal in order: confirm Wirecast receives audio, check source and master mute/levels, inspect destination routing if you use multiple tracks, then compare a local recording with YouTube playback. A silent monitor alone does not prove that the transmitted stream is silent, and exact control names vary by Wirecast version.
1. Confirm Wirecast is receiving audio
Start at the input, before changing YouTube settings. Select the intended microphone, mixer, capture device, or system-audio source in Wirecast and check whether its meter responds when sound is produced. Telestream says Wirecast can capture integrated line-in, microphone or microphone-jack input, and audio playing from the computer (Telestream’s Wirecast supported-device information).
- No meter activity: Check that the device is connected, selected as the operating-system input, and selected as the Wirecast source. Confirm the device and its audio interface are supported.
- Windows: Telestream documents audio interfaces through ASIO, WASAPI, and DirectShow; DirectShow supports two channels per device.
- macOS: Telestream documents AVFoundation for audio interfaces.
- Meter activity: Audio is reaching that source in Wirecast; continue to source and output controls.
Operating-system privacy controls can also affect capture, but their current menu paths are not established here. Check the settings for your OS and version rather than relying on an assumed path.
2. Check source and master mute and level
In the current Wirecast mixer, inspect both the individual audio source’s level and mute state and the overall stream or master output level and mute state. A source can have signal but be muted or turned down; a master output can also suppress otherwise audible sources. Control names and layout differ by release, so use the current mixer rather than searching for a historical label.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Telestream’s December 2012 Wirecast-for-YouTube guide described a “Stream Audio” control for streamed audio and “Live Audio” controls for selected sources. Those names are historical clues to the distinction between source and output controls, not verified current UI labels.
3. Inspect track routing if your production uses it
If you have configured multiple audio tracks or custom routing, check that the YouTube destination is using the intended audio track and that the inputs are assigned to it. A Wirecast 11 guide for Windows documents an Audio Track Selection field and an optional Multi-Track Input Mapper. Treat these as version-specific reference points: they do not establish a current menu path, or mean that every production needs custom mapping.

If you use a simple single-track setup and have not configured custom routing, first resolve input and mixer issues rather than changing multitrack settings without a reason.
4. Compare the monitor, a recording, and YouTube playback
Listen to Wirecast’s local monitor, make a local recording if available, and check the actual YouTube playback. Note which outputs are audible. If a recording has sound but YouTube playback does not, the fault is likely later in the output path or destination configuration; if neither has sound, revisit source and mixer checks. This comparison narrows the problem but does not, by itself, identify a single cause.

Monitor output can be misleading. Telestream’s release history records a version-specific issue in which output-device settings of 44.1 kHz or 96 kHz caused monitor noise without affecting broadcast or recorded output. That historical issue is not a general recommendation to change your sample rate. Use the recording and transmitted playback as separate evidence rather than assuming a noisy or silent monitor reflects the stream.
5. Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Wirecast’s source meter does not move | Confirm the intended source and OS input are selected, the device is connected, and the device/API is supported. |
| Source meter moves, but local recording and YouTube are silent | Check that source’s mute and level, then the master output mute and level. |
| Local recording has sound, but YouTube playback is silent | Check the destination’s selected track and input mapping if your setup uses multiple tracks or custom routing. |
| Monitor is silent or noisy, but recording or YouTube is audible | Do not treat the monitor as proof of a transmission failure. Compare outputs and account for the version-specific monitor issue in Telestream’s release history. |
| Audio works for one input but not another | Verify the affected device is selected and connected, then inspect its individual source level and mute state. |

If the checks do not resolve the issue, collect the details that distinguish capture, mixing, routing, and playback problems:
