WIND BREAKER has no official anime power chart, so this is an editorial ranking based only on fights shown in the television anime through season 2, which aired in 2025. It weighs opponent caliber, technique, durability, composure, and fight conditions—not reputation or a win taken out of context. The manga continues beyond the anime, and its later feats are excluded.
How this anime-only ranking works
The official premise follows Haruka Sakura, who comes to Furin High School aiming to reach the top in fighting, then discovers that its students have become Bofurin, a group that protects the town. The official character materials identify the series’ fighters, but neither they nor the other consulted official sources publish a numbered strength ranking or comparable scores. This list is therefore an interpretation of the anime’s on-screen evidence, not canon.

The cutoff is the television anime through season 2, released in 2025. Later manga developments are not used. The ordering gives more weight to direct combat evidence than to titles, reputation, or ambition. A result also needs context: an interrupted fight, a team encounter, an injury, or an emotional moment cannot be treated as a clean measure of every matchup.
The six strongest characters shown in the anime
1. Hajime Umemiya
Umemiya’s position at the top rests on his status as Bofurin’s leader and the combat evidence shown in the covered anime. His authority is not, by itself, proof that he is the strongest; the relevant case is how he handles a serious challenge while remaining composed. He combines physical capability with judgment, and that steadiness matters when a fight has consequences beyond personal pride.

His placement is a comparison of the anime’s demonstrated performances, not a claim that the story has supplied a formal ranking. It also does not mean he would automatically defeat every character in every circumstance.
2. Chika Takiishi
Takiishi belongs near the top because the anime presents him as a major combat threat and gives viewers direct evidence to assess, rather than relying only on a reputation mentioned by others. His presence raises the level of the conflict around him, making opponent caliber and the circumstances of each encounter especially important in judging his standing.
Rank #2
This placement uses only what the television adaptation has shown through the stated cutoff. Manga feats beyond that point do not count, and his exact position relative to Umemiya remains an editorial judgment rather than an official result.
3. Haruka Sakura
Sakura’s strongest evidence is his progression. He arrives at Furin intent on fighting his way to the top, but ambition alone does not earn a place on this list; his ranking reflects the fights and improvement the anime actually depicts. Across those encounters, he shows resilience, adapts under pressure, and keeps fighting when opponents expose gaps in his experience.
He ranks below the two characters above because the anime’s portrayal of his growth is not the same as proof that he has already surpassed the most established fighters. His trajectory is clear; a definitive endpoint is not.
4. Choji Tomiyama
Tomiyama’s standing is supported by his role as a formidable opponent and the anime’s direct portrayal of his fighting ability. His position depends on reading the relevant encounter in context, not converting its outcome into an all-purpose measure of strength. Motivation and emotional state affect how a fighter approaches a bout, while an uneven or interrupted contest offers less certainty than a completed one.
Rank #4
That makes Tomiyama a high-level contender, but not an uncontested pick above the first three. The anime does not provide a neutral tournament bracket or a set of matched, repeatable fights to settle every comparison.
5. Jo Togame
Togame earns a place through his demonstrated technique and the way he approaches combat, not simply through allegiance or reputation. His fight evidence gives a useful contrast with fighters who rely more heavily on momentum: composure and judgment can shape an encounter as much as force.
Best Value
His position reflects the anime’s shown performance and its particular circumstances. It should not be read as a claim that he would lose to every character ranked above him in a one-on-one fight.
6. Kyotaro Sugishita
Sugishita rounds out the list on the strength of direct anime evidence and his physical presence in the story. The ranking distinguishes what the adaptation actually shows from what other characters’ loyalties or reputations might suggest. That distinction matters here: being associated with a powerful group does not automatically establish an individual’s place in a cross-character ranking.
Sixth is a close call, not a precise measurement. The anime has not staged a comprehensive set of comparable fights among all six, so the lower places are especially sensitive to which performance and conditions a reader values most.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is the strongest in WIND BREAKER?
On the anime evidence through season 2, Umemiya is the most defensible editorial pick for strongest overall, with Takiishi the closest challenger. That answer is not an official canon verdict: the series’ official materials do not publish a top-six chart, and the anime has not resolved every possible matchup. A viewer who prioritizes a particular opponent, fight condition, or type of skill may reasonably adjust the order.

The WIND BREAKER manga is ongoing, with print and digital volumes listed by Kodansha USA. It continues beyond the anime, so later manga material may change how readers assess the characters—but those later developments are outside this anime-only ranking.
