On 29 April 2024, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, marked their 13th wedding anniversary by posting a previously unseen photograph from their 2011 wedding day, captioned “13 years ago today!”
What the couple posted
The photograph was shared on the couple’s social channels on Monday, 29 April 2024, the anniversary of their wedding on 29 April 2011. Coverage describes it as one of a set of informal, non-official images taken for the couple’s personal use rather than a formal wedding portrait released by the palace. The post carried a single line of text: “13 years ago today!”
Where and who
- Location: the Bow Room at Buckingham Palace, as reported by PerthNow.
- Photographer: Millie Pilkington, according to PerthNow and OK!.
- Status: reported as previously unseen in public coverage. The photograph’s original release date and the full set it belongs to are not stated in the reporting.
The uniform detail
Much of the press attention focused on what William was wearing. PerthNow reported that the portrait shows him in a gold-and-black uniform, having changed out of the red ceremonial tunic of the Irish Guards. PerthNow described it as the first full view of that outfit. That is PerthNow’s characterisation: the reporting does not independently verify the uniform’s history, its occasion, or why the change was made, so readers should treat those details as unconfirmed beyond that one report.
What the photographer said
OK! reported a reaction from Pilkington to the release: “Can’t believe it is 13 years ago almost to the hour, that I took this portrait. So excited and honored that they should wish to share it.” The quote is reproduced by OK!; it has not been checked against an original statement from the photographer.

How to verify the post
The couple’s own social post was not accessible to the sources behind this article, and no palace press release or official archive entry for the image was found. The caption, setting, photographer and uniform description above are therefore attributed to the cited news reports rather than confirmed from the original post. Readers who want to check the wording or the image directly should look at the Prince and Princess of Wales’s official social accounts for 29 April 2024.
