What movies make up the trilogy?
The connected story consists of Unbreakable, Split, and Glass. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment described Glass as completing the trilogy that began with the first two films. Universal’s release announcement also lists the film’s home-media formats.
Shyamalan has described the project as a long story he once hoped to tell across multiple films. In a 2021 WIRED interview, he said he was fortunate to finish the trilogy with Split and Glass. Read the interview transcript.

Why does Shyamalan say the story is over?
His reasoning has been consistent: he prefers making original stories and introducing new characters rather than continuing with sequels. In 2019, when asked whether Glass marked the end, he said, “I would say so,” and spoke about wanting to tell original stories. The Independent reported his comments.
In 2023, he said he probably would not make another sequel, explaining that he had thought of Unbreakable as a trilogy and preferred starting from scratch with new ideas. Read the 2023 interview. Could the franchise ever return?
