Seth gets her safely inside, then dies from internal bleeding. The finale’s path forward is not a confirmed romance for Angie and Will: it is a story of grief, new motherhood, and a return to work, with their relationship left open.
What happens to Angie in the finale?
Angie’s labor begins while she and Seth are driving to the hospital. They crash, but Seth initially seems able to continue. He gets Angie inside in time for the birth of their daughter, Edith, whom they call Edie. Soon afterward, he collapses from internal bleeding and dies.
Angie is left in shock and initially cannot care for the newborn. Will takes leave from work and helps raise Edie while Angie grieves and begins to recover. A montage moves through Edie’s first year, showing Angie gradually reconnecting with her daughter before returning to work alongside Will. TVLine’s finale recap and post-finale interview detail these events and their consequences.
What future does the show establish for Angie?
The clearest direction is that Angie will build a life as a widowed mother while continuing her police work. Co-showrunner Karine Rosenthal says Angie is not expected to resign; she sees Angie wanting to show her daughter how to survive. Rosenthal also identifies a coming tension: Angie’s instinct to put herself in danger now sits alongside her responsibility as a parent. Is there a romantic future between Angie and Will?
It remains unresolved. The finale brings Angie and Will close again through shared history and caring for Edie. The showrunners describe them as family to one another since childhood and as returning to each other’s orbit. But they say the finale is not depicting a romantic reunion, and that the characters do not need to rush into a relationship. Liz Heldens, co-showrunner, calls them “the beating heart of the show.” Her comments and the clarification about romance appear in TVLine’s post-finale interview; the question of their romantic future is also raised in TV Insider’s interview.

So “clears the path” should be read as a possibility, not a promise: Will’s support restores closeness, but the show has not confirmed that Angie and Will will become a couple.
