Amazon called Season 3 the “third and final season” and then confirmed a feature film, directed by series creator Jenny Han, that will conclude Belly’s story. The hopeful part for fans is that the story returns to Cousins Beach. No separate spinoff has been announced.
Why Season 4 is not on the table
Amazon’s Season 3 announcement describes the season as the show’s third and final season and says it is based on Jenny Han’s bestselling trilogy of books. The show’s ending was therefore set by the studio’s own framing, not left open for a later renewal. Read Amazon’s Season 3 announcement for the original wording.
Nothing in Amazon’s later movie announcement reverses that framing. The film is presented as the next step, not as a new season that happens to be a movie.
The hopeful update: a feature film
Amazon’s movie announcement says the story will conclude with a feature film directed by Jenny Han. The studio describes it as “the final chapter of Belly’s journey.” Han wrote in the same announcement that she could not wait to welcome viewers back to Cousins Beach for the movie. Her reflection on the adaptation is also included: “When I first wrote The Summer I Turned Pretty 17 years ago, I could never have imagined it would resonate with so many people around the world and ignite such a passionate global conversation.”
#1 Best Overall
The film is confirmed as the conclusion of Belly’s story. Beyond that, Amazon’s announcement does not give plot details, a release date, or a full cast list. Fans should treat any specific date or casting report that appears elsewhere with caution until Amazon or Han confirms it. The full announcement is at Amazon’s movie update.
Is there a spinoff?
No spinoff has been announced in Amazon’s official updates. The movie announcement covers the film, and the Season 3 announcement covers the final season. Neither mentions a spin-off series, a prequel, or a companion show. That is a statement about what has been announced so far, not a claim that such a project is impossible in the future.
Rank #2
Because no competing continuation has been named, there is no real choice to weigh between a spinoff and the film. The film is the only continuation Amazon has described.
Viewership figures Amazon has reported
Amazon reports that Season 3 reached 70 million global viewers in its first 70 days on Prime Video. In the same 70-day window, Amazon says viewership ran 65% higher than Season 2. These are Amazon’s own numbers. They have not been independently audited, and the visible text of the announcement does not state the year the figures were measured.
Where to watch and where to read
- Streaming: Amazon’s movie update says all three seasons are available on Prime Video. Availability varies by country and can change, so check the Prime Video title page for Season 3 for your region.
- Books: The show is adapted from Jenny Han’s bestselling trilogy. If you want to know more about Belly’s story before the film, the books are the original source material. Confirm the current edition and format before buying.
What is still unknown
- The film’s release date. Amazon’s movie announcement does not provide one.
- The full cast. Amazon says it will be announced later.
- The plot. Amazon says details remain under wraps.
- Merchandise or a soundtrack. None is confirmed in the movie announcement.
Until Amazon or Han provides more, the answer to “will there be more Summer?” is a film, not a new season or a spinoff.
