Reports say Prince William and Catherine expect Forest Lodge in Windsor to remain their family home when he becomes king, but the future arrangement has not been officially confirmed. What is confirmed is their planned move to Forest Lodge in 2025; that is not the same as a settled post-accession plan.
What is confirmed about the move to Forest Lodge?
In August 2025, ABC News reported that William, Catherine and their children planned to move to Forest Lodge later that year, citing confirmation from a Kensington Palace spokesperson. ITV News likewise reported the planned move from Adelaide Cottage to Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park and attributed confirmation to a palace spokesperson.
Those reports establish the planned move, not a guarantee about where the family will live after William becomes king. The claim that they expect to remain at Forest Lodge should therefore be treated as a reported expectation, not an official decision.
Has the palace confirmed they will stay there after William becomes king?
No such confirmation appears in the sources cited here. Neither the reports confirming the 2025 move nor the Royal Family’s published profile establishes a post-accession residence plan. There is also no direct statement from William or Catherine in these sources confirming that they intend to stay at Forest Lodge after a future accession.

The distinction matters: a confirmed move is a present plan, while a future monarch’s household and residence arrangements could be decided later. The expectation may be reported, but it should not be presented as settled fact.
How does Kensington Palace fit into the picture?
The Royal Family’s profile for the Prince of Wales lists Kensington Palace as the couple’s official London residence for royal duties. That describes its official role in London; it does not establish that Kensington Palace is the family’s primary home, or that it will be William’s home as king.

Reporting in June 2026 says King Charles III and Queen Camilla will continue to use Clarence House as their London home, while Buckingham Palace retains a ceremonial and operational role. In July 2026, The Washington Post quoted Keeper of the Privy Purse James Chalmers describing Buckingham Palace as “Monarchy HQ, the crown jewel of our national buildings.”
Those arrangements illustrate that a monarch’s personal home and the monarchy’s working center can serve different purposes. They provide context, but they do not establish what William will choose when he becomes king.
