The comments signal an ambition—not confirmation that a particular series has been commissioned, is in production, or has a release date.
What did Crunchyroll say about Indian stories?
In an interview published by Rest of World on August 15, 2024, Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini said: “Next, Crunchyroll plans to produce anime shows based on Indian characters, themes, and stories.” That wording describes a direction the company wanted to pursue; it does not identify a completed deal or a particular show.

Purini’s remarks were also reported by ComicBook.com on August 27, 2024, in coverage of his comments about international material and anime’s Japanese identity.
How would Japanese creators be involved?
The India-focused idea was to bring Indian intellectual property (IP)—existing stories or other creative material—to Japanese creators and explore whether they could adapt it as anime. Purini explained the possibility to ComicBook.com: “For example, we may introduce Indian IP to Japanese creators and suggest that if they turn this IP into an anime and tell a story, it might resonate with audiences in the region.”
#1 Best Overall
- Good product with good quality
- Easy to use
- Value for money
The conditional phrasing matters: this was a proposed creative collaboration, not a claim that Japanese creators would be removed from the process or that a specific partnership had been agreed. A separate ComicBook.com report on August 29, 2024 likewise described the prospect of anime made with Indian stories.

Reporting on Purini’s broader remarks discussed international source material beyond India, including Korean webtoons and games. These were examples of material Crunchyroll might explore with creators; they were not announcements that any particular webtoon, game, or other work had been selected for adaptation.
Has an Indian-inspired Crunchyroll anime been announced?
The cited August 2024 coverage names no Indian source work, author, rights holder, production studio, project title, schedule, or release date. It establishes that Purini described an interest in this direction, but does not establish that a series entered production. The status of that ambition after those remarks is not confirmed by the cited reports.
Would a future series be available everywhere?
Not necessarily. Crunchyroll says licensing agreements can limit which titles are available in particular regions. Its Help Center explanation of regional availability is general guidance; it does not confirm where any future Indian-story anime would stream.
