Fête de la Musique is France’s annual celebration of music, held on 21 June. In Paris, it is a citywide collection of performances in streets, squares, parks and cultural venues—not one central festival site. The 2026 edition took place on Sunday, 21 June; the Ministry of Culture says information for 2027 organizers will be published later, so next year’s programme and logistics are not yet confirmed.
What is Fête de la Musique?
Launched in 1982, Fête de la Musique brings amateur and professional musicians into public spaces and venues for concerts in France and internationally. The Ministry of Culture presents the event as a free celebration of music in its many forms. Individual listings can have their own entry terms, so check each event rather than assuming every performance is free.
The 2026 edition was the event’s 45th, held on Sunday, 21 June. Paris’s programme was dispersed across the city, with performances at different locations and times.
When does Fête de la Musique take place in Paris?
The annual date is 21 June. The most recent detailed Paris edition covered by official listings was Sunday, 21 June 2026. The official Ministry event page says information for 2027 organizers will be published later; a 2027 programme, schedule, transport plan and permit deadline should not be treated as confirmed yet.

Where to find concerts and choose a plan
Start with the Ministry of Culture’s official Fête de la Musique programme, then verify the details on the relevant venue or arrondissement page. Listings can change by location, so check the address, music style, start and finish times, entry conditions and any reservation requirement before setting out.
- Street performances: Explore several parts of the city and expect to walk between sites. The Paris tourism office advises arriving early at busy locations.
- Venue events: Choose a listed cultural venue when you want a specific programme or a defined location. Check whether entry is free or requires a reservation.
- A focused programme: The Ministry’s 2026 Palais-Royal listing was free to enter and ran from 13:15 to 21:30 on 21 June. It included several kinds of jazz, a conservatory big band, fanfare, swing dancing and the Orchestre national de jazz. This was one venue’s programme, not the citywide schedule.
Paris’s tourism office describes many street concerts in the 2026 edition as continuing until around midnight, with some permitted venues potentially running later. Treat those as past-edition guidance, not a fixed citywide closing time. Confirm the current listing for the event you plan to attend.

Getting around and returning late
For 2026, the Paris tourism office summarized overnight service on selected metro, RER and Transilien lines and warned that not every station was open. Check the transport authority’s current service information for the specific year and route; do not assume all lines or stations run all night.
Île-de-France Mobilités also listed an event-day ticket for 2026. Its terms said it was available in the app from 20 June at 00:01 until 21 June at midnight, and from ticket machines on 21 June during service hours. The ticket allowed unlimited travel on listed Île-de-France transport modes, subject to exclusions including certain direct airport shuttles and tourist buses. These were date-bound 2026 terms; check the Île-de-France Mobilités ticket page for current availability and conditions.

Because events are spread across Paris, plan your route around the performances you actually want to see. Comfortable walking shoes are a sensible preparation for moving between locations; they are practical advice, not an official recommendation.
Organizing or performing in Paris
Permit requirements depend on who manages the location. For musical activity on public space managed by the City of Paris, the 2026 application form required prior temporary-occupation authorization and set a 21 May 2026 deadline. Applicants were directed to submit the complete form with its annexes. That deadline and process describe the 2026 edition and do not establish a 2027 calendar.

For locations outside the City’s municipal domain, the City directs organizers to contact the relevant owner or manager. The City of Paris events information identifies places with separate managers; there is no single permit process that applies to every site across Paris. Confirm the site manager, authorization, proposed hours, sound arrangements and participant scale with the authority responsible for the specific location.
