X canceled its planned content partnership with Don Lemon before The Don Lemon Show premiered on the platform. Lemon said the decision came after he interviewed X owner Elon Musk; X said only that it had decided not to enter a commercial partnership. The public statements establish the sequence, but not Musk’s private motive or whether the interview caused the cancellation.
What happened to The Don Lemon Show?
In January 2024, X announced a content partnership with Lemon for a program about politics, culture, sports and entertainment. The Associated Press reported that the announced plan was for 30-minute episodes three times a week; that was a proposed schedule, not a record of episodes that actually aired (Associated Press).
Lemon recorded an interview with Musk for the intended first episode. Before the premiere aired as part of the X partnership, the company said it would not proceed with the commercial arrangement (Associated Press).
What did Lemon and X say about the cancellation?
Lemon’s account
On March 13, 2024, Lemon said X had canceled the partnership after his interview with Musk. That is Lemon’s account of the timing and decision, as reported by the Associated Press and Axios (Associated Press; Axios).

X’s public statement
X’s statement, quoted by the Associated Press, said it had “decided not to enter into a commercial partnership with the show.” It did not give a detailed reason for the decision (Associated Press). X also said the show could still publish content on the platform (Associated Press).
Was the interview released?
Yes. The interview remained the planned premiere and was released outside the canceled X partnership, including through YouTube and podcast channels, according to TechCrunch (TechCrunch). The cancellation ended the announced commercial arrangement, not the interview itself.
What was discussed in the interview?
The Associated Press reported that excerpts addressed X’s moderation of content and hate speech, including the “great replacement theory.” When Lemon asked about Musk’s responsibility for moderating hate speech, Musk said: “The only reason I’m in this interview is because you’re on the X platform and you asked for it. Otherwise I would not be doing this interview.” The AP also reported that Musk said he did not have to answer reporters’ questions (Associated Press).

No. Lemon said the cancellation followed the interview, while X’s public explanation was that it had chosen not to enter a commercial partnership. Those statements document the sequence and each party’s public account; they do not establish the private decision-making process or prove that the interview was the cause. The interview’s subject matter is relevant context, but the available statements do not identify it as X’s reason.
