After the show ended, its executive producers updated the episode with Apple’s blessing to give the series a goodbye; the revised cut appeared on Apple TV+ on April 18, 2025. A report that day said the original was no longer offered there, but its availability today has not been confirmed.
Why did Mythic Quest get a new finale?
The March 26, 2025 episode was initially released as the season-four finale, not as a planned final goodbye to the series. On April 11, TheWrap reported that the show had ended after four seasons and that the finale would be adapted to close the story. The next day, TechCrunch reported that an updated version would arrive the following week.
Executive producers Megan Ganz, David Hornsby, and Rob McElhenney described the change as a final update made with Apple’s blessing: “Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing we made one final update to our last episode — so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.” The statement explains their stated aim; it does not establish Apple’s reason for ending the series.
What changed between the two cuts?
TVLine’s recap describes a different final beat for Ian and Poppy in each version. In the original, Poppy heads toward the Netherlands, then returns after an alert that Ian is trying to log in. They acknowledge how much the Elysium expansion matters to them, embrace and kiss, then pull apart in surprise as the credits roll.

In the revised cut, they hug but do not kiss. Poppy offers to write down Ian’s passwords, they switch desks, and their exchange settles back into workplace banter. The scene details come from a recap of both cuts; they do not mean the original cut is still available to watch.

Can you still watch the original finale?
Current availability is unconfirmed. 9to5Mac reported on April 18, 2025, that Apple TV+ no longer offered the original episode when the revised cut went live. That is a dated account, not confirmation of the service’s catalog on October 8, 2026, or proof that an official alternate viewing route exists. Check the current Apple TV+ listing before assuming which cut is available.

What is known about the show’s ending?
The established explanation is the producers’ own: after the series ended, they updated the finale so it could function as a goodbye. The available reporting does not establish a separate Apple business rationale for the show’s end, so claims about why Apple ended it would go beyond what has been confirmed.
