He escapes before the ship explodes, and Part 2 reveals that the blast is tied to Carla Marino’s plan to fake her death. Carla survives the explosion too, but McGee and Torres later shoot her.
Does Parker die in the NCIS Season 23 premiere?
No. The premiere is a two-part story: “Prodigal Son, Part 1” aired October 14, 2025, and “Prodigal Son (Part II)” followed on October 21. Part 1 leaves Parker’s fate uncertain; Part 2 confirms he had already escaped the Quentin before it exploded. (CBS episode page; Paramount Press Express)
Why is Parker on the Quentin?
After the Season 22 finale reveals that his father, Roman, has been murdered, Parker blames mob boss Carla Marino and pursues her. His grief and anger drive him to extreme lengths, putting his future and the team at risk. The Part 1 chase leads to the Quentin, where Parker is believed to be aboard as his sister, Vice Admiral Harriet Parker, faces the decision to disable or destroy the ship. What caused the Quentin explosion?
The explosion is part of Carla’s staged-death maneuver, not evidence that Harriet’s ordered attack killed Parker. Parker had gotten off the ship beforehand, left a message for the team using the number “51” as a signal, and hidden at Gibbs’ cabin. Part 1’s ending is designed to leave his whereabouts unresolved; the blast alone does not establish that he died. (CinemaBlend’s Part 2 recap; TV Insider’s Part 2 recap)

Did Carla Marino survive the ship attack?
Yes. Carla survives the Quentin blast and later turns up in Cuba with her granddaughter. She is prepared to trade information about the Nexus organization for asylum. Parker draws her out by invoking the memory of her late son; when Carla moves toward her weapon, McGee and Torres shoot her. Parker therefore survives the pursuit, but he is not the one who kills Carla. (CinemaBlend’s Part 2 recap)

The suspense in Part 1 rests on two unknowns: whether Parker is still aboard and whether Harriet will carry out her order while her brother may be on the ship. Part 2 separates those questions by revealing Parker’s escape and Carla’s plan. Harriet’s dilemma still has personal consequences: the siblings’ relationship is damaged, and the resolution offers them a first step toward repairing it. Paramount Press Express described Harriet’s situation as an “impossible choice.” (Paramount Press Express)
