The clips prompted viewers to call her unsupportive, but they do not establish what she felt or intended. Hunter asked people to leave her alone, and Lenee later addressed the criticism in a TikTok response.
What happened at the Heisman ceremony?
Hunter, a University of Colorado player, won the 2024 Heisman Trophy at the ceremony on December 14. In his acceptance remarks, he said, “Never thought I would be in this position,” as reported by the Associated Press.
Clips from the ceremony and moments involving fan photographs circulated online. Some viewers interpreted Lenee’s apparent reactions as showing a lack of support and criticized her. That was an interpretation of brief footage, not a verified account of her feelings or motives.
Why did viewers criticize Leanna Lenee?
The backlash centered on how viewers read Lenee’s demeanor in the circulating clips, including footage from the ceremony and around fan photos. Coverage by Yahoo Sports and Sports Illustrated described the criticism and the clips behind it. The available reporting does not establish that she meant to slight Hunter or that the footage captures the full context.
