The striking difference between Cruise’s red-carpet appearance and his look in the film is explained by prosthetic makeup for his role—not evidence of a real-world change to his face.
What happened at the London premiere?
William and Catherine attended the London premiere of Digger at ODEON Luxe Leicester Square. Reuters’ footage listing describes the couple arriving and later speaking with Cruise and director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Reuters Connect reported the event on September 22, 2026; ABC News’ Good Morning America reported the Leicester Square venue on September 23, 2026.

The premiere was part of the film’s promotion. At the time of ABC/GMA’s report, Digger was scheduled to open on October 2, 2026.
Why did Tom Cruise look different in Digger?
Cruise’s transformed appearance in the film comes from prosthetic makeup for his character, an oil tycoon associated with an ecological disaster. ABC/GMA describes the character as a powerful man who tries to establish himself as humanity’s savior after unleashing a disaster.

On The Graham Norton Show, Cruise discussed the extensive makeup process. The Press Association reported on September 25, 2026, that he said: “Let me make it clear – none of that is me,” and described reducing the makeup process from six hours to one. That timing is Cruise’s account of his own experience, not an independently verified production statistic. The Press Association reported his comments.

“Shocks fans” is a headline-style characterization, not a measured reaction in the cited coverage. The reporting establishes the premiere and explains Cruise’s prosthetic transformation; it does not quantify audience response. Nor does the appearance provide a basis for claims about Cruise’s health or cosmetic procedures.
