How Tini’s mac and cheese became a Thanksgiving favorite
Younger’s recipe spread beyond TikTok’s cooking audience and into holiday kitchens. WBUR reported in November 2025 that, two years after the original 2023 post, home cooks were bringing the mac and cheese to Thanksgiving gatherings. The appeal is practical as well as indulgent: the method is teachable, and Younger explains the choices behind it rather than treating the recipe as a string of unexplained steps.
In the WBUR interview, she reflected on its unexpected reach: “I didn’t think it would pop off as much as it did because it’s just mac and cheese … but it’s a way to get people in the kitchen.” The dish’s popularity is a reported trend, not proof that it is the best or only Thanksgiving mac and cheese.

Cavatappi to catch the sauce
Younger prefers cavatappi, the ridged, corkscrew-shaped pasta with a hollow center. “I use cavatappi because you want the cream to get in the hole,” she told WBUR. The shape helps hold sauce, but it is a preference, not a requirement; another pasta shape can work.

A roux-based sauce and three cheeses
The familiar version pairs mozzarella, Colby Jack, and sharp cheddar with a sauce built from butter, flour, evaporated milk, and heavy cream. Evaporated milk is regular milk with much of its water removed; Younger said it helps create creaminess without a long simmer. A detailed published recipe version specifies one pound each of mozzarella and Colby Jack and half a pound of sharp cheddar, alongside one pound of pasta. Those quantities belong to that recipe-page version, not a universal measurement for every rendition. For a definitive ingredient list, use Younger’s creator-linked recipe rather than assuming secondary recipe coverage is identical.
Layered, then baked
Rather than simply serving the sauce-coated pasta from the pot, the recipe-page version layers pasta and cheese in a baking dish. It calls for baking at 350°F until bubbling, then briefly broiling to brown the top. Follow the creator-linked recipe for exact quantities and timing; ovens and dish sizes can affect how quickly a bake reaches those visual cues.

How to keep Tini’s mac and cheese from getting grainy
Younger told WBUR that the roux is a common trouble spot: “One, the big one last year was some people were messing up the roux, so their mac and cheese came out grainy and gritty.” Her advice focuses on steady heat and patience, then careful dairy and cheese additions.
- Cook the roux over medium heat. Stir the butter and flour together and give the flour time to cook. Younger says, “You really want to take your time with everything with the roux.” Too much heat or insufficient cooking can contribute to a gritty result.
- Add the evaporated milk and cream gradually. Pour them in bit by bit, stirring as the sauce thickens, rather than adding all the liquid at once. This helps the mixture come together smoothly.
- Lower the heat before melting in cheese. Add cheese over low heat so it melts gently; high heat can make the sauce separate.
- Shred cheese from a block. Younger’s emphatic advice is: “You cannot use pre-shredded. That is my number one thing.” She says packaged shredded cheese has a coating to prevent clumping that can get in the way of the creamy texture she wants. A box grater works; she also suggests a food processor or a KitchenAid shredding attachment.
What the recipe can—and cannot—promise
The technique offers clear ways to improve the odds of a smooth, creamy bake, but it does not guarantee identical results in every kitchen. Heat, stirring, and the timing of additions matter, and the detailed amounts and bake directions cited above come from a secondary recipe page. Coverage has also put numbers on the recipe’s social reach, but those figures are dated snapshots rather than live totals. Woman’s World reported more than 130 million views for the original video and another 91 million for a follow-up in January 2025. ELLE reported 12.5 million TikTok followers, 2.6 million Instagram followers, and 55,000 YouTube subscribers in a June 18, 2026 profile. These are the outlets’ figures at publication, not verified current counts.

ELLE reported on June 18, 2026 that Younger’s first major cookbook, Today We Are Cooking: Recipes That Teach You to Think Like a Chef, was planned for publication on November 3, 2026.
