The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills did not bring Carlton Gebbia back after season four, but the public record does not establish why. The clearest explanation for why her one-season run felt like a mismatch comes later: Andy Cohen said the show had reduced her to sex-related material and Wicca, and that she got an “unfair shake.” That supports the argument that the franchise was not ready to show the fuller person behind a striking persona—not the claim that her beliefs caused her departure.
What happened to Carlton Gebbia on RHOBH?
Bravo announced Gebbia and Joyce Giraud as new cast members for the fourth season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on September 18, 2013. Gebbia appeared that season and was not brought back for season five. A contemporaneous E! report on May 28, 2014, said both women would not return, citing sources, and noted that Bravo had no comment.

TIME reported two days later that an unnamed source attributed the decision to the women not making enough impact on audiences to warrant another season. That is a source’s explanation, not an official Bravo statement or a measured audience finding: the report supplied no survey, rating, or other audience statistic specific to Gebbia.
Why the “not ready” interpretation fits
The show introduced her through a narrow set of traits
Bravo’s own October 9, 2013 interview with Gebbia foregrounded her Wiccan faith, family life, and practice. Her beliefs were part of her public introduction, but the most revealing later assessment came from Cohen. In a Bravo report dated January 21, 2015, he said: “You know she’s a PTA mom, we portrayed her with all the sex stuff, and the Wiccan stuff, and that was it. I know there was more to her and I feel like she got an unfair shake.”

That retrospective comment points to the central mismatch: a cast member with an identity and life beyond her most attention-grabbing details was presented, in Cohen’s view, through those details. It does not show that producers deliberately set out to disadvantage her, nor that a different portrayal would have changed the renewal decision.
Her season also had real interpersonal conflict
The season was not simply a portrait of an unconventional woman misunderstood by everyone around her. Bravo’s episode listing for “Turning Down the Crown,” published February 17, 2014, describes Kyle Richards and Joyce deciding not to invite Carlton on a Puerto Rico trip after Kyle said she had received strange, spooky words on her computer screensaver. The conflict gave viewers a concrete cast dynamic, while also placing Gebbia’s beliefs near the center of how the story framed her.

- Let the games begin! Own the genre-defining Saw horror series in all its grisly glory. Five-disc set includes: Saw (2004), Saw II (2005), Saw III (2006), Saw IV (2007), Saw V (2008), Saw VI (2009), Saw: The Final Chapter (2010) and Saw 3D: The Final Chapter (2010).
- Genre: Horror
Both things can be true: the season contained genuine friction, and Cohen later thought the edit failed to show enough of Gebbia. Taking his comment seriously does not require treating every conflict as manufactured or assuming her faith was the reason she was dropped.
What the public record does—and does not—show
- Established: Gebbia joined the season-four cast, appeared for one season, and did not return for season five.
- Reported but not confirmed on the record by Bravo: TIME’s unnamed source said the new cast members had not made enough audience impact.
- Retrospective assessment: Cohen said Gebbia was portrayed too narrowly and got an “unfair shake.”
- Not established: that Wicca caused the casting decision, that the edit was intentionally hostile, or that a fuller edit would have secured her return.
Gebbia said she would return after Cohen’s public acknowledgment. In Bravo’s January 21, 2015 report, she called his comments validating and said, “Yes, I would. After Andy being public about it…yes, absolutely I would come back.” That shows how his assessment landed with her; it is not evidence of a later casting offer or an official explanation for her exit.

So, was the franchise not ready for Carlton?
As a reading of the season, “not ready” is persuasive: the show made Gebbia’s faith and sex-related persona especially visible, while Cohen later acknowledged that this was not all there was to her. As a proven account of why she left, it goes too far. The available reporting establishes that she was not brought back and records one unnamed source’s audience-impact explanation, but no named Bravo decision-maker publicly tied the renewal decision to her beliefs or to the way she was edited.
