Why ‘The Life List’ Star Kyle Allen Should Be the Next Internet Boyfriend

Kyle Allen's case for the internet boyfriend label rests on Brad, the lawyer whose friction with Alex in The Life List turns into real support. Here is what the film and its sources actually show.

Kyle Allen’s best argument for the “internet boyfriend” label is not a popularity statistic. It is the character he plays. As Brad in The Life List, Allen gets a romantic arc that starts with friction and ends in real support, and that structure is what makes the case for him persuasive. The label itself is an opinion, and this piece treats it as one.

Why Brad works as a romantic lead

Netflix’s cast guide for the film, published May 19, 2026, describes Brad as a young lawyer whom Elizabeth appoints as executor of her estate. The estate’s arrangements are tied to Alex completing her list, which puts Brad in the position of the person who keeps pushing her forward. That setup gives Allen three things a romantic lead needs:

  • A reason to be around. Brad is not a bystander to the story. He is assigned to oversee Alex’s progress, so he is in nearly every scene where her plans move forward or stall.
  • Friction before warmth. Netflix says the two characters initially bicker. An opening rivalry gives the later softening something to land on, and it avoids the instant-attraction shortcut that many romantic comedies rely on.
  • Reliability as the turn. According to the same guide, Brad and Alex grow closer as he supports her. The romance is built on a man who shows up, which is the quality audiences tend to describe when they call someone a good boyfriend.

The film’s emotional center therefore rests less on grand gestures than on the steady accumulation of small acts of help. For an actor, that is demanding material, because it leaves no room to coast on charm alone.

How the relationship is built, in Carson’s words

Sofia Carson, who plays Alex, has described the early chemistry between herself and Allen in a Netflix Tudum interview. Her account is useful because it explains the performance from the inside:

“Kyle and I kind of immediately had this goofy chemistry, which worked well, because Alex and Brad’s relationship is that kind of silly friendship that blossoms into love.”

Two points matter here. First, Carson’s remark describes the relationship as a friendship that turns into romance, which matches the bickering-to-support arc in Netflix’s cast guide. Second, it is her perspective on working with Allen, not an independent measure of how audiences respond. Read it as evidence of how the two actors approached the material, and as a reason to watch whether the friendship-first structure works on screen.

What “internet boyfriend” does and does not establish

“Internet boyfriend” is fan and editorial shorthand. It is not a category that studios, Netflix, or ratings services confirm. The table below separates what the available sources support from what this argument has to assume.

Claim What supports it What is not established
Allen’s character is warm and reliable Netflix Tudum cast guide (May 19, 2026) describes Brad’s support of Alex Audience reaction to Brad is not measured in any source cited here
The romance develops from friendship Carson’s Netflix Tudum interview describes a “silly friendship that blossoms into love” Her account is a co-star’s perspective, not an independent assessment
Allen is already widely called an internet boyfriend None of the sources reviewed use the label for him No audience-consensus figure, ranking, or sentiment data is published for this claim

The gap in the third row is the main limit of the argument. The piece can make a case that Allen deserves the label, but it cannot yet show that the label already belongs to him.

What to know about the film before you decide

The Life List is based on Lori Nelson Spielman’s novel of the same name. Netflix’s official title page lists the film as 2025 and names Sofia Carson, Kyle Allen, and Sebastian de Souza in the starring cast. Netflix classifies it as a drama, a romantic movie, and a book adaptation. Those labels matter for the boyfriend question, because the romance is one strand of a film that also deals with grief, unfinished plans, and the estate’s conditions. Brad’s appeal depends on how much screen time those other strands leave him.

Readers who want the story in its original form can find Spielman’s novel by searching for “The Life List Lori Nelson Spielman book.” The book’s version of Brad, if it appears there, may differ from the film’s, so check the novel before treating film details as book details.

Where the case is strongest

The argument holds up best where it stays close to the text: a character built on friction, a relationship that grows through practical support, and a co-star who describes the chemistry as deliberate and easy. Those are craft observations, and they can be checked against the film. The argument is weakest when it claims a fan consensus that no cited source documents. If you want to test the label, watch the film, track which scenes Brad carries, and decide whether the romance earns its turn.

Viewed that way, Allen’s case does not depend on hype. It depends on whether Brad feels like someone worth wanting, and the source material supports the view that the character is written to be exactly that.
