The Cornelia Marie’s disappearance from Deadliest Catch happened in two distinct periods, not one continuous departure. It missed season 13 while continuing to fish, then returned for season 14. Years later, it stopped appearing after reports about Josh Harris’s past case; a Discovery representative was quoted as saying Harris would not appear in future episodes. The boat is back in the series’ story in 2026, with Jake Anderson given an opportunity to captain it.
Why did the Cornelia Marie disappear from Deadliest Catch?
The answer depends on which absence you mean. In 2017, the Cornelia Marie missed season 13, but reporting at the time said it remained an active Bering Sea fishing boat. Josh Harris described that hiatus as a creative decision by the network and producers. The vessel returned in season 14 with Harris and business partner Casey McManus. The later disappearance followed 2022 reporting about Harris’s 1999 case. In an October 2024 article, The Escapist reported that Discovery had said Harris would not appear in future episodes. That is the clearest available explanation for his departure from the series, but it should not be treated as a direct statement from Discovery about the vessel’s status or every reason the boat stopped appearing. The Escapist’s account attributes the quoted response to a Discovery representative.

What was reported about Josh Harris?
The Escapist reported that 2022 coverage concerned Harris pleading guilty in a 1999 sexual-abuse case involving a minor. The article reproduced this statement attributed to a Discovery representative: “We’ve been made aware of this issue. Josh will not appear in future episodes of this series.” Because the primary court records and Discovery’s original statement are not established here, the legal description and network response should be understood as reported by The Escapist, not as an independently verified account of the case.

Is the Cornelia Marie gone from the show now?
No. Warner Bros. Discovery’s April 23, 2026 season announcement describes Jake Anderson having an opportunity to take the captain’s chair aboard the Cornelia Marie. Discovery’s series page lists season 22 episodes. The announcement establishes the boat’s place in the 2026 season narrative; it does not establish a complete ownership history or guarantee where episodes are available to stream.

The Cornelia Marie is closely associated with Phil Harris, who captained it for more than 20 years. Discovery’s 2020 announcement said that after Phil’s death, his son Josh took over the family business with Casey McManus. That history helps explain why the vessel’s absences attracted attention, but it does not by itself explain the production decisions behind either gap.
